Gears of War

Gotta love the bloody, vulgar, intensity known as Gears of War.
Looks great, voice acting is some of the best I've ever heard in
a video game, and 1, 2, and 3 have the greatest stories from any
video game in my opinion. Anybody else play this series?

Sadly not, but I have heard good things about it...
Loved, very much, the Karen Traviss novels of it though...She's
a pretty awesome writer, right there...
Also, it being X-Box kinda hampered the playing of it
somewhat...Me being Playstation all the way, and all... ;D ...

I played the first one, but I got tired of it pretty quickly.
I'm not really a fan of third person shooters, and I thought
they went a little OTT with the blood.

Actually, I can't remember if the Bro-In-Law plays it...He may
be Halo only...
I know it's very popular...

I guess you didn't play the Space Marine/Warhammer 40 000 game
then?... :D ...

When it comes to shooters in general, this is my favorite
series. And luke I said the story in each game was amazing. I
played the first on about a year after it came out, then got 2
when it was released, as well as 3. There were actually scenes
that had me either tearing up, or straight up crying in 2 & 3.
GoW has been the ONLY game to do that to me, which earned even
more respect in my book.

I can't say I remember much in terms of the plot, nothing more
than the general world setup, but I don't recall having anything
negative to say about it. And I do remember it having some
fantastically atmospheric moments in it. From what I do remember
the mechanics were solid, and the cover was better implemented
than most games I've seen attempt it.
But the gore is what really put me off. I have the same problem
with Borderlands. It's not as graphic as Gears of War was, but I
can only stomach watching an enemy explode into pieces so many
times.

I think it's more realistic in terms of gore than anything else
I've played. Like for instance, when somebody gets chain sawed
in half, there's gonna be ALOT of blood, and some games, if
being chain sawed was included in it, you would see little, to
no blood at all. It's also super gory because it's all war.
24/7, everybody in Sera has to be on guard, because the Locust
enemy could pop up from under ground anywhere, and any time. So
you pretty much have nothing but death happening all over the
place. It's a pretty morbid concept now that I think about
it...but I still love it. xD

Gears of War is one of the few shooting games I like.
It's got a pretty good plot.
It can present a challenge.
At least I can say that about the first one because that's the
only one I have played.

I get that it's supposed to be gory, but bloodspatter on the
camera is just over the top if you ask me. At that point it's
gore for the sake of gore. And I don't recall the main character
getting drenched in it. That's what mainly did it for me. It
just seemed a little... gratuitous.
But, as I've said in another thread, to each their own.
