The Book of Enoch
The Book of
Enoch
Translated by Robert H. Charles, 1912
* * * * * *
The Book of the Watchers (Chapters
1-36)
Chapter One

1 The words of the blessing of Enoch,
wherewith he blessed the elect and righteous, who will be living
in the day of tribulation, when all the wicked and godless are
to be removed. 2And he took up his parable and said- Enoch a
righteous man, whose eyes were opened by God, saw the vision of
the Holy One in the heavens, which the angels showed me, and
from them I heard everything, and from them I understood as I
saw, but not for this generation, but for a remote one which is
for to come. 3Concerning the elect I said, and took up my
parable concerning them:
The Holy Great One will come forth from His dwelling,
4And the eternal God will tread upon the earth, even on Mount
Sinai,
And appear from His camp
And appear in the strength of His might from the heaven of
heavens.
5And all shall be smitten with fear,
And the Watchers shall quake,
And great fear and trembling shall seize them unto the ends of
the earth.
6And the high mountains shall be shaken,
And the high hills shall be made low,
And shall melt like wax before the flame.
7And the earth shall be wholly rent in sunder,
And all that is upon the earth shall perish,
And there shall be a judgement upon all men.
8But with the righteous He will make peace,
And will protect the elect,
And mercy shall be upon them.
And they shall all belong to God,
And they shall be prospered,
And they shall all be blessed.
And He will help them all,
And light shall appear unto them,
And He will make peace with them.
9And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
To execute judgement upon all,
And to destroy all the ungodly:
And to convict all flesh
Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly
committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken
against Him.

Chapter One seems to indicate a time of
judgement in the "day of tribulation." This will be a time of
dramatic events, bringing fear to men of earth. The wicked and
godless will be "removed," but the elect will be protected and
shown mercy. The Lord will come with "ten thousands of His holy
ones," appearing in strength from the heaven of heavens.
The vision was given to Enoch by the angels for a future
generation.

Some scholars think he may having been speaking mostly of the
tribulation that proceeded and that which occured during the
great flood (which is spoken quite a bit of in the book of Enoch
in general), but there is far two many implications of what
happens after the flood, in both the time of Christ and (He is
spoken of here in various chapters) further down the timeline at
the end of the age of fleshly men (and bad angels) in charge of
things. Like so many prophetic scripture verses (like the one
in Joel), they can speak to multiple timeframs, for indeed,
there is nothing new under the sun. The first 36 chapters are
considered more possibly valid as a religious document of the
time of Christ and before. The other chapters found mostly in
the Geez language (out of Africa) from the coptic christian
churchs there have the rest of the full book of enoch which has
a total of 108 chapters. Verse 9 of chapter one, most will find
familar, as it is printed in in a book of the New testament.
When it was spoken/written, it was refering to this text. This
text comes before the new testament, as identified by the
presense of the book of Enoch amidst the dead sea scrolls which
date before the time of Christ.

I thank you both, but I hope that others may see the truths I
find there, as I have. Most ppl feel that due to the bulk of
the christian community considering it heretical, they assume it
must be so, but the reasons given (for calling it heresy) have
always been pretty weak and lame IMO. Yet to date have I heard
one serious reason that dis-validates its value to the christian
faith.
Chapter 2
1Observe ye everything that takes place in
the heaven, how they do not change their orbits, and the
luminaries which are in the heaven, how they all rise and set in
order each in its season, and transgress not against their
appointed order. 2Behold ye the earth, and give heed to the
things which take place upon it from first to last, how
steadfast they are, how none of the things upon earth change,
but all the works of God appear to you. 3Behold the summer and
the winter, how the whole earth is filled with water, and clouds
and dew and rain lie upon it.
I decided to put the chapters of Enoch in
color and quote to help them stand out from our comments.
Chapter 2 speaks of observing the heavens and
the earth, the seasons and all the works of God displayed by
them. Is there a greater testimony of God's awesome power?
I've heard it said that there are only two seasons mentioned in
Scripture--summer and winter. And, here it is also the
same.

Thats a good observation Raina. I hadnt noticed that myself.
What chap 2 spoke to me was that God created many things and
that most of these things do exactly as they were designed to
do, both in the stars, and in nature. I thought He was showing
how like in His servant Job, they were doing exactly what they
were supposed to do, praising them more or less for thier
steadfastness and as an example to us how to be. There is
another part in Enoch that spoke of 7 stars (I think thats the
number) that did NOT do what they were intended to do, and so
they were imprisoned for 10,000 years I think as punishment,
which I thought was cool, a specific time period of punishment,
not the eternal punishment we see in most of scripture. And
interestingly enough, 10,000 years is about the limit of time
that civilization extends back in the mesopotamia area which is
considered to be the birthplace of all civilizations. But
anyways I think the chapter mostly speaks of the steadfastness
of some of His creation, ages upon end, to encourage us that we,
His creation also have the ability to be steadfast if we truly
desire to be.

Ahh, yes, good point. "How steadfast . . .
they do not change . . ." These things carry on exactly as God
intended.
