Saint Pius X
By: Leslie Date: August 24, 2024, 4:59 am

It was his feast day on the 21st August and I found out by
attending Mass that day.
No other saint encouraged me more to become Roman Catholic. An
encyclical criticising Modernism. (A heresy) is one of my
favourites.
[i]Putting paid to modernism, the most slippery and insidious of
all heresies, in his encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis. Again,
the Pope gets to the nub of the matter:
For scholastic philosophy and theology they have only ridicule
and contempt. Whether it is ignorance or fear, or both, that
inspires this conduct in them, certain it is that the passion
for novelty is always united in them with hatred of
scholasticism, and there is no surer sign that a man is on the
way to Modernism than when he begins to show his dislike for
this system.

I confess. I have never read all the many pages of the
encyclical. It was not available to me as a would-be convert.
The Catholic Truth Society produced many religious books and I
probably had one of them about the life of St.Pius X. I was
impressed by what CTS said about him. And that helped in my
conversion.
