Is There a Purpose to all This...?
By: Leslie Date: October 9, 2023, 6:10 am

Are we being punished by God for our immoral lives? There are
earthquakes in Southern Mexico, Afghanistan, a storm in Hong
Kong and the attack on Israel by Hamas.

No. The premise that God punishes people in places as far apart
as those, including people who live decent, upright lives, is
absurd. Moreover, such natural disasters have always occurred,
even before humanity came along, and wars have been around ever
since the higher primates started throwing rocks at each other
over scarce food supplies. By your logic, World War Two, which
was on a much vaster scale than today's local wars, was also a
punishment from God. Was immorality correspondingly greater at
that time? (Rhetorical question. Of course not.)

What an awful thought, to even think that God Almighty would arm
and allow Hamas to bomb Israel, or organise and protect Nazism
and Hitler in the eradication of millions particularly Jews, or
create earthquakes and other natural disasters where tens of
thousands of innocents are killed or die slow agonising deaths,
surely if you believe that then your god is a monster.
This is the problem with religion, it has led to the deaths of
untold billions of humans; by other humans who think they know
the mind of God Almighty, or that somehow he has given them the
true religion which they interpret from a few ancient texts and
with these truth texts they have the right to oppress, kill
and commit murder all in the name of their god.
Most days I thank God Almighty that I am and atheist leaning
lightly on the side of agnosticism.

According to Our Lady at Fatima in 1917, the war was
preventable. Some remarkable coincidences showing God's
intervention into the affairs of man are that the Battle of
Lepanto on October 7th 1571 against Muslim armies was won by
greatly outnumbered Christian armies at the gates of Vienna,
thanks to the prayers of the Rosary which the Pope urged
everyone to say, and the military intervention of the King of
Poland. Thus saving Europe from being Muslim.
Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, 2023.

Sorry but that is no answer to my post, Leslie, nor Val's and is
not relevant to them as it has nothing to do with them as a
single occurrence in the whole of history (and only believed by
Catholics anyway.) Please respond to the main points raised,
such as: "The premise that God punishes people in places as far
apart as those, including people who live decent, upright lives,
is absurd. Moreover, such natural disasters have always
occurred, even before humanity came along, and wars have been

As Greg said what on earth has this to do anything posted, do
you honestly think that praying to a statue can change the
course of war or other disasters, or that God is so easily
manuipulted.
lady of Fatima or Knock or Lourdes does not exist, these
sightings were only in the imagination of poor people looking
for help, and as for the rosary it takes the devotion from God
Almighty and gives it to Mary, so she must be in control

answer you are going to get from me.

If we can't see it, Leslie, it's because you haven't explained
anything in response to our original posts, apart from a totally
irrelevant reference to Fatima. Or perhaps you think we're mind
readers. And as for "that's the only answer you're going to get
from me", so much for the spirit of debate.
I will still insist that the idea of a cruel God who punishes
innocent people for the sins of others, including causing
earthquakes and other natural disasters, is repugnant.

Evening Leslie, we can't see because there is nothing to see, I
didn't think that Catholics believed in predestination, but I
suppose like all religions all Catholics don't believe in the
same things
