how to set up a planted tank? |

Hey everyone I just bought a 20 gal tank that I want to set up |
|
as a planted tank, but I don't know anything about planted tank. |
|
Where should I look for ideas of how to set it up. I what to do |
|
it right but low cost. All I have is the tank and a small air |
|
pump so far. What else do I need. |

Hey Littlebuddy, |
|
For starters, your going to need a filter of some type. Since |
|
you have an airpump, a good sponge filter would be the cheapest |
|
way to get started. |
|
You'll need a substrate too. Something simple as playground sand |
|
is cheapest, yet to get a better start and still not break the |
|
bank, use an Eco-Complete planted substrate would be an |
|
alternative. |
|
Do some research on the types of plants you want to grow. |
|
Knowing ahead of time will help you save money when it comes to |
|
purchasing the proper lighting for those plants. |
|
Another important item to consider is tank placement. Will it |
|
get direct sunlight? Is there an air-conditioner/heater vent |
|
close to the tank that would blow across the tank. |

do I need to have a lot of water movement in a planted tank, and |
|
what kind of maintenance do i need to do. Should I be vacuuming |
|
out the gravel weekly like in my cichlid tank |
