2nd tank

I have a 55 gal tank in my living room and i want to get a 2nd
tank to put in my son's room. He is just lover a year old and
love watching my cichlids. My wife want to just get a bowl with
a goldfish. I really don't want to do that obvious reasons. I'm
thinking more like a 10 to 20 gal tank. I want put a few fish in
it for my son to watch. What would be a good size tank and what
kind of fish will work in it?
Thanks

No bowls, a ten gallon with a small internal filter would be
better

I think I have decided to get a 20 gal. What fish will be good
for that size and what should my budget be.

It's been a long time since my kids were that small. Back then,
I had a 100 gallon tank that divided the room between dining and
living rooms.
We did the same thing, saw our son's enjoyment of the 'big' tank
and put a small tank in his room.
Sure, he saw it when he was awake, or crying for someone to come
pick him up. Just never got the awe from him that the big tank
did.
My advice, save the money for something later. At a year old,
all he wants to do is absorb your attention and reactions to his
emotions. I'd simply spend more time in front of the tank with
him.
Best of luck in your decision.
Paul
