Looking for ideas of fish to breed as feeders. I am currently
cycling a 30 gallon but cant decide what would be the best and
easiest.

Does it have to be fish?, why not try some invertebrates;
crickets, cockroaches, earthworms etc...

What are you going to be feeding?
Guppies are probably the easiest. But really any livebearer
will have fish food size fry at some point. And Convicts are
like rabbits. Danios, easy to breed and prolific. I guess it
depends on how involved you want your food breeding program to
be and how much live food you need to produce.

I'm feeding a needle nose gar. Which is not a true gar but is
actually a member of the needle fish family. I've tried other
food but has no interest in anything but feeders. I don't care
how involved the breeding is as I enjoy the hobby and am looking
forward to breeding. I thought about convicts but not sure. Any
ideas would be appreciated.

I know someone on another forum that has set up two 20 gallon
tanks each with a pair of convicts for a similar purpose. All
the fry are used as food for her Oscar.

I don't like feeding fish to my fishes but there are some fishes
that don't eat any other thing than fishes like garrs at first
So sometimes we are left with no choice
I tried to feed my garr cockroaches he ate once but not after
that and he dont see earthworms as food neither will he take
pellets hence I had to feed him fishes
But my friend has kept one by feeding bloodworms with pellets
and he eats like crazy
Some garrs eat but like mine some are very picky

It is certainly a very long term commitment to have to feed
nothing but live food but if you are happy to do it then fair
play. I think I will stick to my easier managed flake, pellet
and freeze dried food eaters.

I think we all know my opinion on feeding live food so I'll keep
my mouth shut on this one.
My 2 dogs are naturally carnivores too but I don't breed rabbits
for them to eat, not when manufactured dog food is so much
healthier....... I'm just sayin ::) ::)

I am in your favor john but garr don't eat pellet and if
skipping fish , you should feed him meat of another animal
