Tank Talk Episode 8
By: kgtropicals Date: September 19, 2014, 4:53 pm

So here's you chance folks! Let me know what you thought of
Episode 8 that went up on Tuesday. You can be honest, I've got
really thick skin. I know I went on a little bit of a rant, the
first of many I'm sure lol but that is just me being honest.
It's why I love the podcast so much, I don't have to hold back,
I can say what I feel!

Nobody has replied, so I will!!
I had a hard time sitting through this podcast. Not because it
was bad, but more because you're preaching to the choir over
here and I agree with so much. It was a bit like listening to
myself.
I actually get very frustrated sometimes watching people give
newcomers advice on what they should or shouldn't do when it
comes to a new tank. Get this this, get that, don't buy a kit
it's a waste of money, blahblah. Frankly, I think the BEST
option for a first timer is a good 55 gal kit. I like the
Marineland kits because they come with the Penguin BioWheels and
I personally think the BioWheels work maybe a little better than
the other HOB filters. I use them in my smaller display tanks
and they work great. Although I usually end up dropping a few
ceramic rings in the back reservoir for a little added bio
filtration and then I cram in some quilt batting for mechanical
filtration. I don't know that it works any better than the
filter cartridges, but it appeals to my sense of DIY, so I do
it.
Also .. thought I'd say, hey, don't worry about the
computer/camera/audio/visual issues. THAT is like a new hobby
for you as well. It'll take a little time to learn the ropes
and get the system you want! But keep working on it and you'll
get it figured out just like with the fish hobby!
Can't wait till you and Joey can pull together a good interview
though. I like listening to both you two.

Yeah, John, although you do have some kinks to work out. Yes,
I've got upset once (I'm just being honest with you), but I
understand problems arise, plans change, and stuff happens. And
I probably shouldn't have gotten upset, but I did. I sat back,
relaxed myself, and please trust me...I really do understand
that stuff happens. And if I don't (and I do) or other people
can't understand that, well, that's (my) their problem.
But because I do understand I still listen to your podcasts.
Hey, the way I see it, is you (we) have kinks/problems in our
aquariums with our fish (aquariums crash as well) of course you
are going to have kinks/probs with the podcast/technology.
You are working on it, do your best (which I know you are) and
that's all that matters.
I hope you and anyone else who reads this post gets what I'm
trying to say here. :)
Keep it up!!! Thanks.

I really enjoy the pod casts and other than the audio quality on
the episode with Dustin the sound quality has been great and
improved every episode. My favorite topic covered so far was
the big box stores (I submitted that question :))). My only
comments are the last few episodes are low level entry topics.
I think a big majority of your audience is hard core advanced
level and have been in the hobby for years so I will admit I
don't enjoy those topics as much.
You do great work for the hobby and I look forward to the
podcasts and videos each week. Keep it up and Thanks so much!

John--
Like others have said, do not worry too much about the technical
aspects because your broadcasts are light years better than the
videos that you did with the whistling blower in your shop. I
still watched all of those videos so these new ones are
fantastic to me and you do not have to shout to be heard over
the blower! The first videos from the studio were such a nice
contrast from the shop videos (so quiet). I like hearing the
Fish Keeping 101 series because I do not know everything and I
usually learn something from your presentation. I would love to
see more videos that focus on specific species of african
cichlids that go into depth about their behavior, appearance,
etc.
Keep up the great work.

Like I said before in another post and I'm keeping it short
here.....people, whether on podcast or on video talk about what
they know, right? :) If you don't know anything or minimal
about Cichlids, then the podcasts and video will greatly help
someone like me. ;D If you are already a hardcore Cichlid
person, well, let's just say that when I watch, listen, and/or
read things on certain subjects/topics I already know, well, I
see those as refresher courses. And the fish hobby, to me, is
like the Star Wars movies ;) .....I can never get enough. ;D
