Like to hear you thoughts on a hospital tank I know we all don't
have one but it's one of the most valuable things to keep when
were dealing with exspencive fish , like to know your thoughts
on keeping it always cycled & running or break it down when not
needed it's a subject that should benefit all fish keepers
Thanks Again John

I keep a hospital tank. Bare bottom and all of that. I do not
keep it set up unless I'm using it though. I always clean it
out and bleach it after I've had a sick fish in it.
To get it cycled, I have a few little sponge filters that I run
in larger tanks I also have a habit of dropping ceramic rings
into HOB filters and different places. Sump type set ups and
things like that. So at any time I can just transfer one of my
sponge filters or use one of my spare HOB filters and raid a few
different tanks for some cycled ceramic rings. Ta da!! I also
have guppy grass and java moss growing in several places and the
guppy grass especially will suck up ammonia and nitrates and
everything in between. And, it's kinda like a weed, so after
I'm done treating the fish, I can throw the stuff from the
hospital tank out without a second thought. Cuz, I know I'll
just grow more later. Duckweed would work also. But I hate
duckweed.
But that's how I manage things. I don't reuse a lot of things
from my hospital tanks - if I can't bleach sterilize it after,
it goes in the trash.

i also think the main advantage of a hospital tank is that the
amount of meds you use is less. My hospital tank is 20 gallons
and its easier to dose that rather than my 150. Also aside from
the obvious reasons as isolating your sick fish and feeding it
medicated food. I keep mine up and running. it never comes down.
I just keep it well decorated with sand and lava rock so it
still looks nice without fish.

John, maybe you could do a Tank Talk episode where you go
through some of the most common diseases and give a quick guide
on how to prevent / treat them. I think you have touched on
quite a few in various videos but it would be useful to have
them all together. Things like ICK, bloat and even symptoms of
diseases that need treated too such as dropsy.
