SPOILERS! Season 4 Finale
By: JDubya Date: June 15, 2014, 10:32 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Key points:
1. In true fresh baked bread speed up form, Stannis comes to
rescue the Wall from Wildlings. Jon gives his boo a hero's send
off. Melisandre looks at my future husband the wrong way.
"Trick, you know nothing about Jon Snow with or without R'hllor.
Don't get it twisted."
2. Brandon finally gets to where he needs to go, but loses
Jojen in the process. (Was that death in the book? I don't think
so. I could be wrong.)
2. Cersei tries to plot. We know how her plots work.
3. Brienne of Tarth and The Hound face off. He forgets she has
no penis. She remembers he has one. Arya goes against protocol
and strikes a name off her list via long, suffering death.
4. Jaime shows that he's a good brother to at least one sibling.
Tyrion exacts revenge on his boo and Daddy Lannister. Varys
realizes he needs a break from King's Landing. "Girl, bye."
5. Arya is off to Braavos for training.
6. No resurrection.

Brienne vs the Hound was the best knock-down, drag-out brawl
since the Black Knight vs the Green Knight. Or Jimmy vs Timmy in
South Park.
:D
Overall it was quite good. I like that Dany is finally taking
some responsibility. The musical cues were a nice touch: Rains
of Castamere for Tywin and the softer version of the main theme
for Arya's departure.

Big Brie and The Hound had me really loud over here at Pine
Vale. That is a tall woman. That is the tall I wished I would be
as a teen. Two tall parents, and a short grandmother (paternal).
5'4 it is.

She was broad in the shoulder and broader in the hips. Her legs
were long, her arms thick. Her chest was more muscle than bosom.
Her hands were big, her feet enormous. And she was ugly besides,
with a freckled, horsey face and teeth that seemed almost too
big for her mouth. - GRRM's description of Brienne of Tarth
I don't care how ugly he wants you to believe she is, Brienne
makes up for it in spades with her fighting skills. Awesome
fight. My memory is a little cloudy, but I don't think that
happened in the books.
Also, I thought the scene with Tyrion and Shae was more
impactful than it was in written form.

Any thoughts on why Arya left the Hound to die? I thought she
was more noble than that.

He was on her list and as good as dead anyway. No mercy for the
wicked and all that, even though Clegane wasn't all bad. He
basically begged her to do it. In Arya's shoes, it makes sense
to let him suffer.
This is only my opinion.

Nope, it wasn't. It could happen in Book 6, but in a different
way. Or it might be the show's way of diverting from the books'
path. No one except the writers can say for sure.

Several significant deviations from the book already (Brienne
vs. the Hound is another), keeps things exciting while at the
same time letting you know which things are actually important
(sorry Jojen, you're clearly not important!).
In the books, the Hound is severely wounded fighting Polliver
and company and Arya leaves him to die from those wounds
(although he may or may not actually die from them).
Interestingly enough, his hound helmet is recovered by Rorge,
who Brienne DOES in fact kill, so I suppose it all makes a
twisted sort of sense. And...I better shut up before I reveal
more than I mean to...

Yes, I see they switching up roles while still reaching the same
goals covered in the book. But the Jojen death really surprised
me. I guess that is the goal of the writers, to surprise the
folks who read the books as well as entertain the masses.
