| R+L=J Theory (Spoiler Alert) | |
| By: Greystark Date: January 26, 2015, 6:20 pm | |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | |
| Obviously one of the more popular theories/beliefs/rumors is | |
| that Jon Snow is really the son of Lyanna Stark & Rhaegar | |
| Targaryen (R+L=J) despite some of the other speculations in the | |
| book. | |
| Got me thinking... if this is true how might Jon find out his | |
| true parentage? There is only one living person left in | |
| Westeros who was with Eddard Stark as his sister was dying - | |
| Lord Howland Reed (Jojen & Meera's father). He has not appeared | |
| yet and GRRM could be waiting for the epic finale to bring him | |
| into the story for the big reveal?! | |
| Otherwise I can only think of two other scenarios but both are a | |
| big stretch - (1) Benjen Stark is in fact alive and somehow | |
| knows the secret or (2) Bran with his powers is able to "see" | |
| his father (or maybe someone else) in the Godswood in the past | |
| revealing the truth about Jon. | |
| Anyone else subscribe to this theory or how it might be | |
| revealed?! | |

| Actually Benjen Stark if I remember from the books has been | |
| turned to a wight, albeit with a retained memory. He might be | |
| able to give the info to Jon. On a different note, I am not yet | |
| sure that Jon's mother is the sister of Ned Stark. | |

| The devil is in the details... and there are plenty of them "to | |
| read into" with GRRM. At this point it is just a popular fan | |
| theory because there is no definitive proof that Ned is not | |
| Jon's father. However if you read a lot of the blogs they will | |
| lay out all kinds of evidence, etc. The main reason I believe | |
| it is because Ned has never told Jon who his mother is. If she | |
| were some kind of wh*re, fisherman's daughter, wet nurse or | |
| whomever then why wouldn't he have revealed it to him by this | |
| point? I also think that Jon has a greater role to play in the | |
| story and clearly finding out who his mother is will likely feed | |
| into that. | |
