My review of Project Zomboid: The Pre-Alpha Zombie Uprising
By: InnocentSam Date: November 19, 2011, 5:13 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Let me start by explaining why I'm writing this and what I'm
writing about.
I'm currently installing SR:TT, so I thought I might as well do
something first.
Project Zomboid is a Java-based game (like Minecraft) that uses
the isometric viewpoint engine (e.g. Sims 1). It combines
crafting, needs, wants, weapons with free-roam Zombies.
Your character requires needs such as hunger, sleep and
warmth/shelter. But it also has quite a realistic damage system.
Like, you get raped by a horde of zombies in your bathroom, you
manage to escape but you're bleeding from your right shin and
left arm. You need to convert a shirt into bandages and you need
painkillers. That's what it's like.
Did I mention it was free roam?
At the moment, it's in pre-alpha. So it's not Alpha, it's not
Beta, but it's before them. This means that- although there are
hardly any- it's not without bugs and it's not optimized for
multi-core processors (yet)
However, onto my opinion.
I think it's a brilliant mini-game at the moment. It's an
excellent game to play while you're waiting for a game to
install, waiting for something to finish downloading, or you're
just not in the mood for SR:TT or any other game.
Future updates include interactive NPCs, multi-core
optimization, map cells (e.g. you go to the edge of one map and
it loads another, like Minecraft) and saving (yes, the game
doesn't have saving at the moment)

It looks like it could be fun, I'll have to give it a try soon
or later!
