Stars on the Midnight Range?
By: Arvid Stjerne Date: August 15, 2017, 3:36 pm

It was a good day for a fresh start. The Stjerne family was
known for their assets but little was known of their youngest
son, Arvid. And one day the father had enough of his son he
deemed "lazy" and spineless. So much so that after fight father
son( it was only the father yelling) Arvid had no choice but to
move out to StarlightCity. Maybe this fresh start was just the
thing he needed. Although his mother insisted that she should
drive him to his new location. Which he wouldn't refuse. His
mother waa kind soul indeed.
Meanwhile in the car,
Arvid:" Mother, do you think that one day Father and I will be
on speaking terms?"
"If you want to live happy? Then probably not.": she replied
jokingly. Which lightened the tone of the conversation. "Oh
there it is!" He said cheerfully pointing at his new adress. A
small yet quaint cottage at the verv of the city." I think I can
walk from there, besides I have to familiarize myself with my
new environment." She stopped the car and the youngest son
departed.
After a few minutes walking, the young stag holding his
sketching pad had a thought.' I am going to need more pencils
and charcoal if I want to keep sketching...' Which led him into
the village trying a general store or a marketplace even.
Although his mind was busy listing the supplies he would need to
start living on his own, his heart was still haunted by memories
of his youth. Which led him to bump into a few people so he was
distracted."S-Sorry!"

Another day at the office, another day without anything
happening. Ever since Robotnik had been vanquished, things had
been awfully dull for James and his friends as they now worked
in this town. Well, to be fair, it was tourist spot and as such
petty thieves could be around, so the police presence was also
needed.
This was why he had started to work with alongside Petrov,
although he mainly worked in the shadows. He preferred to be
with the patrols that were visible, hence why he was out and
about the marketplace. His shield was back at base, he didn't
use his combat armor for the time being and he only had his
standard issue pistol. Made him feel a bit under equipped but he
made due.
That was when someone bumped into him, nothing major given how
densely packed the place was, it was bound to happen. However,
once he was about to remind the mobian to keep their eyes where
they walked and saw who it was, he was quite surprised.
"No way, Arvid, is that you?" he asked with a smile as he took a
closer look, "jesus man, what are you doing here, in this
tourist trap? Didn't your father hold you on a tight leach?"

"Mitchel! James! You! Ugh yes! .." It was a big surprise to see
his childhood friend here in this...tourist trap?" Tourist trap
you say?" he asked leaning his head to the left in confusion.
"F-father came ..to his ...S-senses...as he said it himself and
forbid me to s-set foot on his property until I be...become..."
All this excitement had him at a loss of words. He took a long
breath before trying to talk again but ended up writting on his
board.
'In short he wants me to "grow a spine"' Then handed over the
pad to let his longtime friend read it.
After a few awkward seconds, he found the courage to speak
again. "I would like ..to celebrate meeting you here in the
tourist trap. If you'd join ...of course..don't feel forced.."
He said shyly almost shameful with his ears dropping already
anticipating a refusal on his friend's part.

"Well, it is not exactly a tourist trap, but this small town is
popular because Sonic is here," James shrugged and placed a hand
on his old friend's shoulder, "ah, don't mind him, that old man
never saw you for what you were. It's good you left, now you can
at least live like you want."
His question made the husky laugh as he gave him a playful punch
on the back, "what kind of question is that, of course i would
love to join you. Why wouldn't i? It's been years."

"I'd like to at least do a....housewarming ? Is it call...well
celebrate this new home with my very best and only friends.
But....y-you can invite people ! Don't think I wouldn't want new
company...did you know that housewarming ...oh I'm doing it
again.." He kept on yapping before realising he got carried away
but the nervousity. Poor stag, he was so happy to meet his
friend after so long. "Let's say 18hr at my new adres" He asked
smiling and wrote on his sketch pad the adress and accidentally
exposed an old sketch of the young doe as she looked back then.
A memory he treasured always.

"I would love to attend that when my shift is over," James
smiled as he accepted the paper with the address. As he did, he
also caught a glimpse of the doe he had drawn, she looked
familiar, very familiar, but nothing sprung to mind as of yet,
so he let it be for now, "i will be sure to bring some friends
along... i know a guy who would love to meet you again. Just
remember to keep calm and relax, it really suits you better."

'I must hurry then' He though before rushing through the market
while leaving James behind. He browsed the shops and stand to
gather various supplies he had on his mental list. So far he had
almost everything then he caught a glimpse of an old miniature
model of a plane. The sight brought back a flow of his tender
age.
"I'm sure he would like it.." He said to himself and smiled at
the thought and bought it anyway. The dusty box containing a
model was now on top of one of his bags. The frail stag dressed
with a woolen vest over his classic white shirt looked like he
was going to crumble under the sheer weight of the items he
gathered. "just one more..." He said and dropped the money and
took a few pencils before heading home.
The walk was without any problem , until he arrived home where
he got stucked in front of a locked door."Oh no..my keys.." He
tried to remember his whole parcour. 'First, mother's car. It
can't be on the seat I would know. Or mother would've called me.
Oh no....the table ..the pencils!' He dreaded the idea he could
have lost his keys in that market full of scoudrels and
dishonest persons as James said...or something in between those
lines.
The poor stag ran to the table and asked the keep whp replied
with a strong accent." I have not see keys, you buyin? If no
than go back" The shopkeeper seemed adamant but Arvid notices a
caged critter hold his keys. To his surprised a tiny creature
held them. "How much for the critter, the onetothe left with the
keys!" The keeper seeing an opportunity to steal from the poor
stag responded:" Ahhh this is rare specimen. Very costly, very
costly yes!" Arvid knew it wouldn't be easy and dropped more
money on the table. " Not enough, you rich . give more!" Arvid
was becoming anxious and panicked. He then dropped his
belongings on the floor.
The scene attracted many prying eyes and ears, this wouldn't end
very well. Meanwhile the critter chewed on the keys it had
snatched from Arvid earlier.

James chuckled as he saw the stag run off, this wasn't gonna end
well. Now having something to look forward to he returned to his
patrol, although he wouldn't be there for long.
A bit later, he noticed a crowd gathering at the market, not
uncommon, but it was quite the large gathering so he went to
investigate. It would seem that Arvid couldn't stay out of
trouble, so that hadn't changed a lot.
"What's going on here?" he demanded to know as he saw the
position his friend was in and then addressed both the merchant
and the stag, "care to explain, both of you?"

"He steals, not a good client !" The merchant yelled while Arvid
tried to remain calm and composed but it was too much stress. He
was unable to speak again due to the suddenstress. He wrote on
his sketchbook. " I left my keys on the table and his critter
snatched them. It was just am honest mistake." But the merchant
had none of it and began yelling in a foreigm language before
throwing the keys at Arvid while his critter escaped its cage
again and stole from the crowds pockets.
"Thanks to you James I will be on time to prepare everything for
you and your friends to celebrate my new home!"he said before
taking a breath." I must go now" He quickly grabbed his
belongings he previously dropped , while leaving the sketchpad
behind and ran off to his new home to unlock the door and
finally being able to enter it.
