Renewed and Reborn

(Set after Sapph's arc)
Once they reached the plaza the helicopter was there waiting for
them.
"There you are," Guntram smiled as they boarded, "i was
wondering where you were. People got curious... you can guess
how well i answered their questions."
"Just as long as you're on time," James said as he settled in
next to him, "that's the most important thing apart your
flying."
"And for the record, it's Petrov not Petrol," Anton muttered in
the back.
"If you say so," the penguin muttered, "next stop, the
hospital."
He took a quick look around and then took it up above the
rooftops and made a bee-line for the hospital while just barely
flying above the roofs. It was as dangerous as it was
fascinating in terms of looks.
As they did Maria settled down next to Val and Sabine. Making
sure both were okay, though Val took priority.
"Thanks for the help Viera," she said with as much of a smile as
she could put on, "i appreciate the help... even if i didn't let
on to it."
She then glanced outside and gulped. "Um Schmitt... could you
fly a bit higher?"
"If you want, but this is the fastest right now," Guntram
answered from cockpit, "we had to hurry, right?"
"Yeah, but there is no sense in doing so if we lose the
patients."
"Good point, a little bit more then."
The helicopter cleared the immediate danger zone and soon enough
touched down at the hospital pad, where personal was already
waiting with a stretcher for Val. They quickly moved the wolf
over and then moved her to a room where Maria went to work again
on the two, now with a broader arsenal of medicine available.
Due to the tension of the situation she had opted to let the
rest wait outside. A mean move? Perhaps, but she really needed
her focus on this one.
After 30 minutes, though how long it felt could vary, she
finally exited, wearing a hastily equipped doctor�s coat.
�Okay� it is done, Val is safe and will make a full recovery,�
She announced with a heavy sigh, seems she finally allowed
herself to breath, �both are slowly waking up now. Sabine still
having after effects from the drugs though, so she might be
unresponsive for the time being. In any case, keep your voice
down please.�
Then she stepped out of the way to allow them passage. Both her,
James, Guntram and Petrov seemed to await their move.

Val woke on in an hospital bed with several bandages and a tube
plugged in her arm to keep her hydrated. She opened her eyes ,
confused as where were she and noticed Sacha next to her bed. He
smiled to her but said nothing. Seeing him smile was more than
enough, somehow it made her hapoy. "What happened?" She asked
before her uncle responded with:" Beastly misbehaved and it
became ugly, although for once...She could get out of her tough
shell and ...anyway, I'll tell the others you're awake. " The
old man was happy and left the room while she rolled on her side
, a smile on her face. Once outside he gestured to the squad to
follow him downstairs to the cafeteria and pointed the room to
Viera." She's expecting you , take that damn chance..." Then
asked the squad:" where's the cafeteria? But let's go there."

As the group rode the helicopter to the hospital, Veira sat by
the window overlooking the city. She turned her attention to
Maria as she thank her for helping with Sabine. She just gave a
solid nod before looking at the hospital as they aived. With
Maria taking the others to get worked on, Veira sat on the
hallway floor waiting for the results. It was about a half an
hour later before Maria came back with good news.
She sighed in relief and was just about to get up when Sacha
told her his plan for her and Val to have some alone time. She
stood there silent for a bit before nodding and headed inside.
Once inside the room, she shut the store and stood there for a
bit. Unsure what to say as she starred at the dire wolf.
" Umm hey there...how ya feeling? " she asked.

As Sacha offered to take them down to the cafeteria only Maria
raised her hand in decline.
"I would love to, but while i am not a proper hospital medic, i
am the one caring for Val and Sabine. I have to stay close in
case something happens," she said and fell into a nearby chair,
"if you could bring some coffee when you return though that
would be lovely."
"We will Maria, don't worry about it," Guntram smiled and then
turned to other, "now, shall we be on our way, sir... um...
uh... what's your name sir?"
Petrov just rolled his eyes at the penguin's enthusiasm and
started to walk with the rest. "Let's, the hospital has two
cafeterias. One on the top floor and one of the 1st floor. Both
have the same offers, but the one of the top floor has a higher
price because of the view and air quality. Though they don't
charge the patients if i recall."
"Whatever, i don't think it matters," James sighed and looked at
Sacha, "whichever you choose we'll go to."
As for Sabine, true to Maria's words, she was just lying in the
bed, slowly breathing with her bandaged lower arm. She seemed to
be at peace, although she did thrash a bit. Either it was a
nightmare or she was having a case of hangover. Either way she
didn't seem able to talk or even listen.

"The name is Sacha Brezhniev, but you can skip the formaliities
and simply call me Sacha." The old wolf chuckled and smiled." so
you militaries knows what kind of Coffee Maria likes? I want to
thank her personally for saving my niece." He asked while
climbing down the stairs.
Meanwhile in Val's room,
"I'm feeling a bit confused and I have no memories of what
happened but Sacha told me that Beastly misbehaved and that we
tried to talk...?"She bit her painful lowerlip in silence before
asking:" Did Beastly hurts you? I wouldn't be able to forgive
myself if she did..." She was nervous but glad to see Viera.
Sacha left them alone on purpose and she was greatful. She
smiled to the huntress and sat on the bed.

Veira came close to Val's bed and sat down by a nearby chair as
she tried to find the right words to use. "Well...sort of. In a
way I guess. She said something hateful stuff and while we all
were drinking....we started fighting. Some chairs were
thrown....you were thrown. We all had to chill after a bit but
you and Sabine were the two her were seriously hurt. You bit
Sabine's arm pretty deep Val. " she said as she rubbed her head
a bit.
She then took a breather before speaking again. " I 'm
fine...I'm just hoping you are okay. We have to get rid of
Beastly somehow. She's ruining your life. " Veira said as if
that wasn't obvious but she flt it needed to be said. She then
lowered her head a bit. " Sacha....told me how you felt...you
know...about me. " she added.

"Nice to meet you Sacha, my name is Guntram," the penguin
answered with a smile, "um... i might as well say it now, before
i forget, i have an issue with my short term memory, so if i
forget your name, it is not out of malice or spite."
"He is normally called 'retard' by those back at base," Petrov
said without much interest, "i was in that boat too, then i was
assigned to work with him... guess i was wrong."
The three fell silent for a bit before James spoke up.
"In regards to the coffee, Maria isn't picky, but she seems
prefers it black with a bit of sugar, not that she would ever
say that. Heh, she's too polite for that."

"Coffee, Black. With a pinch of sugar huh? And Guntram, I had a
major memory loss, some things are still blurry but I can cope.
Also, if you were retard I am sure you wouldn't drive, is that
the word? Anyway eheh." he rubbed the back of his head and took
a tray and waited in line. Not one of Sacha's
strenght.(patience)
While in the room Val was reminded of Beastly again. But right
now she had something more important to." I...yes, I liked you
more than you like a friend for a while now but everytime I
tried to tell you something came up. Also Beastly kept torturing
me with that , but right now you're here and no one else...
Viera .." She took a deep breath and extended her hand toward
her. "I have been ..."
Meanwhile in the cafeteria...
Sacha was loosing patience while waiting in line behind an old
mobian who just couldn't pick a damn salad." ...pick a damn
Salad you old ***********" Needless to say that his language
wasn't appropriate for the situation.
Back in the room.
"...in love with you for a while now and it's been the hardest
thing to get out of my chest..." She chuckled and her stress
level rose. She finally said it, after all this time. She did it
without any interruption.
Back in the cafeteria,
After the very rude ....words , Sacha finally could pick a bunch
of different meals and Maria's coffee. "Now....let's go before
these damn old people block the way again....ah sh*t they are
stucked in the stairs....." the old man needed to learn
patience..."

When Val said she loved Veira, her heart froze for a bit as she
turned a bit red in the face. To be fair...Val had been close to
Veira for sometime now. She was like a that special friend that
you grew up with. She slowly balled up her fists at her sides as
she looked at the ground for a bit. She then looked back up and
smiled at Val.
" You know I never mentioned this before..." she replied rubbing
her head a bit. " You were the first person to be a friend to me
when I got my body back. You see...I was always a spirit living
with Blaze so nobody really saw me much unless I made myself
known. After our last battle with Robotnik, we used the chaos
emeralds to get my body back. " she would continue. "And ever
since then I had always been alone aside from Blaze being around
from time to time. But when I was alone and ran into you that
night I guess something changed. " she paused a bit.
" Meeting you has giving me a purpose in life I never had Val.
Even though I will be a mother someday that doesn't mean my
feelings for you have changed...." she replied with a smile
before nudging a bit closer to her friend as she held one of her
hands. She bit her lower lip as she thought about her next
action but shrugged slightly before going for a kiss.

"Thank you for understanding Sa... Sa- Sir," Guntram smiled,
this might explained why he referred to people as either sir or
ma'am, it was easy for him to remember. Once Sacha lost his
temper Guntram jumped backwards and covered his head in shock.
It was mainly they fact that they were in a hospital and the
rapid personality swap that scared the crap out of him. "Um...
ma- maybe you should just calm down a bit sir, after a long life
can we really blame them for being slow?" he asked the dire wolf
as they left.
"Yeah, keep it down Sacha," James said and placed a hand on the
old wolf's shoulder, "if you lose your temper here you'll be
thrown out."
Petrov just looked at the old wolf like he was a disappointed
dad, "calm yourself for goodness sake, one day you'll be one of
them. We all will."
Back up Maria looked at her watch and got up from her chair.
Sabine could wake up at any moment now.
She gently opened the door and was about to knock it to announce
her entrance when she saw Val and Veira kissing and stopped dead
in her tracks.
"Oh..." she said with a heavy blush, "s- sorry for di-
disturbing you... bu- but Sabine... she-"
She didn't get to say more as Sabine let out a mix of a groan
and moan before opening her eyes. Her vision was cloudy and
swimming, and she had a massive headache to boot.
"Argh, my head," she whined in a weak voice, "feels like James
rammed me into a tank again."
"Good to see you awake," Maria said and walked over, "just lie
down and it should clear up. No sudden moment, please."
