labeled a rushed failure we have most morons going Sonic hasn't
been good for years. We know thats just not true so what I want
to get to the bottom of is what is the problem with the games
that are bad and what is the right stuff with the games that are
good. So I'm going to start with the ones I've played and list

Now I've done my break down it looks like the simpler Sonic
games such as the Classics and Colors and Generations seem to be
the best of the bunch. While The Adventure games showed us Sonic
games can be more complex it often brings odd feeling things
such as humans and unneeded characters like Big the Cat. It
seems things really got bad when SEGA stuck to serious with
Shadow and Sonic 06. They made the games simple again with
unleashed and Colors and people were happy again. I think I see
the pattern. While you can add more complex elements to the
Sonic (Adventure) series it should never take itself too
seriously (Shadow & 06)
What do you guys think? I'd like to know things I missed and or
am wrong about. What games do you feel are good and bad?

I may or may not be the only one here who thinks this, but I
just wanna say my opinions on Boom, it links into what you had
to say too Sonic c:
(Spoiler alert For those who haven't played Sonic Boom-Wii U
version- If you don't wish to have it spoiled, read this after
playing the game)
I can't talk for the 3Ds version because I don't have it, but I
have the wii U version, and have completed it, and I have to
say, it has been one of the most enjoyable games I have ever
played.
Why?
Well for starters I loved how the characters interacted with
each other by talking to each other, not just in cutscenes but
during gameplay as well, it gave all four of them more character
and showed more of how they react around each other as a team.
There was even character development for Sonic in there, at the
start of the game he started off calling the four together as a
team and named it 'Team Sonic', I even found that he even went
as far as putting himself up through comments to the other here
during gameplay also, I forgot what it was exactly that he said,
but it showed his 'jerk' side really well.
But as you progress in the game, Sonic develops as well, instead
of saying 'I did it' he said 'we did it' and at the end when his
team said 'go team sonic' he said 'how about just, team?'
Now I don't know about you guys, but I love seeig character
development.
Secondly,
I don't know if it's because I grew up with combat/ exploration
adventure games that I like that part of the game or not, but I
LOVE being able to explore as well as fight as Sonic and Co. How
you can switch between the four to get to different areas is
brilliant, and how each character has their own abilities and
strengths is so etching I have wanted to see in games for quite
a while.
Not just that but the fact that the story mode is multiplayer is
great! I finished the story and then went back and re did the
whole thing again with my little brother, games where you have
to work together to unlock and beat things are the best of
games, and Sonic Boom is just that.
Not to mention, to NPC's throughout the game, they're MOBIAN,
and not HUMAN for once, Hurrah!
I could go on about other great things I see in the game, but
we'd be here all day, so I'll state the only negative I notice
in the game,
The graphics and quality, it does seem a bit rushed, it looks
like it needed more work on the animation, but this doesn't stop
it from being a great game, honestly I got used to the graphics.
I find it kinda sad that people use this as their main point to
bash the game, in the sonic fandom I honestly believe most
'fans' look for anything they can in each of the Sonic games
that they can cling onto and point out to bash the game, when
really, it's not that bad of a game.
If Sonic Boom took the quality of Sonic The Hedgehog 2006's
cutscenes, it would've been 1.) My all time favourite top game,
which it almost already is, and 2.) I bet lots of people that
bad mouth it now wouldn't have any excuse to do just that.
I'll list the positives and negatives as you did Sonic c:
Sonic Boom (Wii U)
+ Multiplayer- Story mode as well as 4P mini games
+ Exploration as well as combat and speed
+ Multiple character choice
+ Unique abilities to each playable character
+ Brilliant voice acting
+ Fitting setting and background characters
+ Character development
+ Interesting story that filled in blanks the more you played
+ Villains that are actually remotely threatening and/or scary
(Bloody Metal Sonic)
- Needed more work on the Animation
I think that sums it up?
I would love for SEGA to have another try at doing games a bit
more like Sonic Boom, as you said Sonic, when it started to get
more serious it started to head South, Sonic Boom didn't seem
serious in a sense that it was boring, it had serious parts, but
it was mainly fun and adventurous, and I love that in Sonic,
'Fun and Adventure' does that not sum Sonic up enough?

Firstly I just wanted to say holy crap that was insightful. So
after reading over your response I was surprised at how many
positive things you had to say about the game. I myself saw most
of the things you mentioned in the trailers I was excited (Eg
Action adventure a new streamlined world with consistent themes,
and just a fun romp through a new world with rings to collect
and puzzles to solve.) I was going to get the game the day it
came out then the reviews hit obviously you are aware what
critics and some fans are saying. So hearing all the backlash I
decided to wait until the game drops below 50 dollars encase it
ended up being a waste of money. It's funny because the game you
described with the positive and negatives sounded like a Jak and
Daxter game (Jak was a series of platformers on the PS2, made by
the guys who did Crash Bandicoot.) Some of the guys who worked
on Jak were part of the Big Red Button game development team who
made Sonic Boom. See I loved Jak so if it's similar to that I'll
try it. You know really looking at that list I agree with you
the animations needed to be touched up to look like they did in
the show. See now hearing this from your view makes me think and
this is just a theory. What if gamers who grew up with Sonic in
the 90's are just far too critical of games these days, like you
said they find something to whine about and they do it.I mean
personally I look at Sonic 1 like most gamers and go, nah it's
perfect but it has lots of problems.
-You couldn't Spindash giving the game a slower pace
-You had limited lives
-You couldn't save your game so if you died back to the start
-The Lava zones were very very slow paced
But with that game like you we only saw the positives, just a
theory. So at any rate I agree the seriousness if taken too far
dose tend to make them less enjoyable. So yeah I'm pretty down
for that statement Fun and Adventure are what it's all about.

Now see i am a 90's person seeing as i was born in 1992. I have
loved the sonic series since the beginning. I dont find the
human thing a huge issue like most tend to. Or the seiousness
for that matter. Sega tried different things some worked others
didn't. I like to give games the benefit of the doubt. I still
plan to get sonic boom. Funny enough if that game is so terrible
why is it so hard to find the game in stores. I believe the
fanbase has gone to crap and i could care a less about those who
don't play the game for dumb reasons. My saying is this....
If you dont like it dont buy it. Nuff said.
