Alt Re-application: Shalinra
By: Spindle Date: February 13, 2019, 3:34 am
---------------------------------------------------------
- How did you learn about the Sixty Thieves?
I have been in the guild for around 8 months, and I've greatly
enjoyed my time in it.
- What is your character's name and race?
Shalinra, a Nightborne.
- Why do you and your character seek to join the Sixty Thieves?
I want to join because it seems like a close-knit community IC
of people who are willing to take consequences, doing shady
deeds, and being outcasts from society (more or less). Also to
RP with people I know. As for my character, she doesn't feel
like she belongs in a martial society where she only sees Grand
Magistrix Elisande reflected in the Banshee Queen's actions. She
has an innate anger towards the betrayal of the establishment,
and she believes in an individual's choice to be free. (She's a
little idealistic, or bitter)
- Tell us about your character's background and how they
became/are becoming a criminal
Shalinra was born in a walled-off Suramar; it was all she knew
aside from reading descriptions in books. She was artistic and
hard-working (for an elf), and took up a few crafts before
settling on jeweling. When most of her family succumbed to the
Legion's temptations her protests fell on deaf ears. She was
disinherited and had to make it on her own somehow. A
charismatic mentor taught her how to "defend herself" by
"dispatching" "obstacles", but before the still nave Shalinra
became entangled in his greater scheme of things her mentor
disappeared.
- What kind of skills does your character have?
- She is a jeweler and appraiser, able to estimate a value to
various jewelry - at least somewhat, things are a bit different
outside of Suramar. The most important aspect of this for the
Thieves would be that she can make new rings or necklaces out of
stolen goods, even going so far as to re-cut gems.
- She knows where to jam a dagger for it to hurt, kill, or
not-kill. She has a little experience in the field, but only in
urban settings (read: Suramar).
- How powerful is your character?
Shalinra can't defend herself against a trained warrior. A
fighter using only fists might knock her out before she has a
chance to stab them. Her skill lies in her trade and in the
three important S's: subterfuge, surprise, and shank.
- How would you define conflict in RP, and how do you feel about
consequences?
Conflict in RP can be a lot of things, but usually orbits people
trying to co-exist in the realm of (in this case) Azeroth. Where
one has to take into account IC and OOC, of "what actions can I
take that will not be completely unfair to the player behind
this character" as well as "what actions are reasonable for my
character to take, from her perspective, and not my own".
Conflict is about seeking a middle-ground where everyone can
enjoy themselves, to allow oneself to lose and learn, live to
fight another day, and allow character growth so that one day
one can allow oneself to win.
Conflict should drive the story 'forwards', no matter who wins
or loses.
I feel consequences in RP can be fun. They can be incredibly
frustrating, especially when not everyone is on the same page.
At times, a character's loss can feel like our personal loss -
but that is only if we see no ways to grow and learn from them.
Also I was a part of a law enforcement guild once. Everyone
hates you there.
- What would your character's nickname be?
[s]Spindle.[/s] Probably something else. I don't know yet, but I
don't think it's something she would have thought about either!
- Anything else you'd like to share about your character or
yourself?
Shalinra has/had been trying to make a living in Booty Bay.
Right now I'm unsure where she is.
As for myself, I have depression- and anxiety problems that I'm
currently working on! (still) I have periods where I might not
log on on my own but would come online for events or if someone
pokes me to ask. I'm usually seen as friendly and social, if a
bit odd.
- Story or IC letter (optional)

Since the previous reply was deleted:
I feel compelled to warn you of this person - they are my
girlfriend, and an experienced roleplayer. One of the best I've
ever known. In case that didn't show in the app.

I too feel compelled to warn you of this person, for they are
one of my best friends. As I'm a reknowned judge of character
you can only concede and agree that they are absolutely
wonderful and one of the best RPers there are. Only a goobster
would think otherwise.

Hey there, Spindle!
A well-thought-out and interesting application! I have no
questions or further comments at this point that couldn't be
asked in roleplay.
Approved!
You can contact Thalindor (myself), Laerynna, Kaziik, or Chel
in-game to arrange for an IC initiation. However, as you
might've already heard, it will likely have to wait until we've
returned from our campaign in Zandalar, which should be roughly
in two weeks' time.

Thank you for the approval (and the warnings)! I will bide my
time until you're back to the mainland, then contact y'all
somehow.

Hey there!
We have left Zuldazar and have taken a (hopefully) short trip to
Booty Bay before returning to Orgrimmar. Unless awful things
happen in the next few days, you should expect to see us in
Orgrimmar - or rather the region around the city - come next
week (unless your character happens to have a reason to be in
Booty Bay)
However, I will emphasise that there is always the chance that
our plans get adjusted and we have to remain in Booty Bay for a
little bit longer, due to one reason or another. But from here
on, we can plan an interview with your character at your
earliest convenience!
Message an officer in-game for further details: Thalindor,
Laerynna, Kaziik, Chel

Funnily enough, in preparation to join the guild, I had my
character stay to live in Booty Bay. (Or try to make her living
there anyway). I am also as of now not sure how much I enjoy
this character, or would fit in with the guild. I would like to
wait for you to return to Booty Bay and watch you interact with
others from afar. In the meantime, I'll withdraw my application
so that others who are more certain may join in my stead, as I
have understood that your recruitment is currently closed.
If things go well, I can still roleplay with you as a guild,
just not as a part of you quite yet.

Thanks for letting us know, Spindle!
We'll ignore your application when it comes to interviewing the
applicants in that case, until a time, if a time arises,
Shalinra is considered a suitable character to attempt to join
with.
See you in-game!

Hello!
This character was already approved before, so here's a
double-approval!
You know the drill from here.
