Online Firearms Licencing
By: Countrysports Online Date: January 13, 2017, 11:36 am
---------------------------------------------------------
As many of you will be aware, the Online system is due to be
launched on Monday 16 January 2017.
There will still be a paper system still in operation for
initially 6 months from Monday.
Should any member have any queries regarding the process, please
ask and we will assist you.
You will be able to see how the application works by complete an
online application as you normally would but simply do not
complete payment of it. Instead close the browser screen
completely and your personal information will be erased.
The process will most likely evolve as it is used and no doubt
there will be alterations and tweaks to the system as it is
being used.
If anyone is trying the online process, let us know how you are
finding it and I can feed any comments back to Firearms
Licensing for consideration during evaluation.

Do they think this going to an online application will speed up
the process?.
Will an online application get preference over a paper one thats
posted?.

Hi Bill.
The paper process is as follows. This is the brief simple
process with your questions answered at the bottom of the post.
Paper application is opened by hand in FEB department.
Application checked by staff that all info present, correct fee
presented and signed by aplicant. Payment is sent to finance to
be cashed. Application is matched up with file and put in queue
for scanning by hand. Application scanned by hand. Application
is then keyed to system by hand and finally passed to await
processing by staff. The lead up to awaiting processing is
where a lot of time is taken up.
The online system should, once submitted to FEB and processed,
bypass all the above steps and go straight to the awaiting
processing stage. Submitted to FEB only occurs when the
applicant completes the form and both referees(where applicable)
then approve the application (this is the "Done within 7 Days"
bit). The Referee is not necessarily the same person as the
landowner. The landowner does not need to sign anything anymore
with online application. You just provide their details as you
always have done.
So in short, the online process should arrive at processing
stage well before a paper application if they are submitted on
the same day and thus quicken up the turn around time and speed
up the process.
I would be looking to have the raw data after the first number
of applications are processed to get a rough turn around time
from the FEB. Now as we know there will always be a few
applications that will take longer than others due to "more
complex situations" than others and I would hope that this would
be the exception from FEB rather than the rule.
So to answer your question:
1) The online process should make the whole application process
faster once submitted to FEB.
2) If an online application is submitted to FEB( see above) at
10am and at the exact same time as a paper application is hand
delivered to the main counter at Lishasharragh, the online
application will be at the awaiting processing stage in FEB
while the paper application is at the counter awaiting delivery
to FEB department. It would technically "Jump the Queue".
3) You keep your cert with the online application process and
then destroy it once you get your new certificate from FEB.
Seriously, Any questions ask and we will try and answer them.
If we cant, I will contact FEB directly for an answer.

I have been reading all the shite on the facebook pages about
the online applications and they are as described. One person
wants everyone to use the paper, that would be a great Idea to
clog they system ta fook then no one will get the FAC back far a
pissing year.
Lets embrace change and lets face it, if it works its here to
stay !! so all the moaning in the world is not going to stop it.
Free Laptops handed to dealers who refused to take them OMG
looking a gift horse in the mouth If they were in their shops
then people could use them but maybe they are too pig headed to
let this happen. If folk are in the shop they will perhaps be
spending money.
I hope it works and works well saves fecking about. If everyone
understood how to use a computer we would be fine.
Well thats my moan and I am sure there will be a few well versed
comments.

Change that aids people for the better is good. I see that the
online system is a good change and will help speed up the
process.
There will always be the small percentage of people who will be
genuinely disadvantaged by any system but there are those of us
out there that will try to assist that small percentage to the
best of our ability should they actually accept our offer of
assistance.
One of a number of advantages using the online system is the
ability to retain your current certificate until your new
certificate is issued.
as previously stated, if anyone needs a bit of help with the
online system, we are here to help.

I have to agree the online application should speed things up
and i am all for it.
Sounds good on paper but will wait and se how it works out in
practise, anything that speeds up the antiquated process they
have at the moment has to be a good thing.

As applying for my 1st time for a FAC i am glad this came a
long. I actually waited till this was launched before I started
getting all my bits and bobs together.. In my experience when a
system becomes computer generated it saves a lot of time as it
does not have to be manually inputted and verified. The old
system i was told took anywhere from 6 months to a year,
hopefully this will speed things up drastically... Will let you
know how I get on
