Went to tannyoky today and done a 1 off 1 on trading my
bettinsoli in for a nice shiny brand new silver pigeon 2 26"
barrels multichoke etc thought they were good price at �1350

Yes, sharpshooter, that's what it's for - to have your initials
engraved.
It was found on the best English guns, where a gun would have
been a major purchase and kept within a family. This meant that
when the gun was handed down through the generations, a young
shooter might end up with a gun with his grandfather or great
grandfather's initials on the stock.
It's copied a lot on modern guns, but little used nowadays when
most guns are traded in for a different one after a few years,
and such a personalistaion would then harm it's resale value
somewhat.
I find it strange that the gun in the OP has a sling swivel
fitted to it, unless the owner has fitted it. I didn't think
that Beretta did this as a matter of course on their O/Us.

I though the swivels were strange but asked at tannyoky said
they ballsed up and ordered these in thats why they are so cheap
supposed to be 1700 got that for 1350 id rather not have the
swivels but id also rather have 350 quid in my pocket
