Does anyone know much about these birds, they have only been
spotted around our shoot over the past two years, do they do any
harm?

aye and the worst thing about them we here in Norn Ireland
aren't allowed to shoot them ! they are cousin's of the magpie
and as dc says they take egg's and rob nests, last summer I saw
12 together in a sort of a flock, apparently we had more than
usual last year due to the cold weather were they came from and
there were no nuts for them to feed on, the only good thing
about a jay for me is they're good for tyin flies ;D

Have a look, dm, at an earlier post on jays. It looks like the
answers from the lads are going the same way........
In other words, jays are like magpies and yet even though they
are destructiv, you can,t touch them! >:(

Jays! My advice - see no evil, speak no evil and hear no evil.
Less said the better!

Beautiful bird, very very intelligent, far more intelligent than
any other corvid, and that's saying something.
BUT protected, and therefore definitely off the prey list

Ye protected, shit loads of them around our way as usual
anything that eats steals or is malignant to game/song birds are
protected, we have loads of corvid traps that are effective on
all species but these buggers seem particularly wary of them
all!
