Before fitting it will get a new timing belt, head whipped off
to check inside too, sump off and cleaned out and a coat of
paint like what I did with the current engine, also found a use
for the roof I picked up too wdesmle

Made a start on getting the new engine ready for TET today,
degreased and washed it the other day, so with the weather being
better today I decided to see about dropping the sump to change
the gasket as it was leaking, and check out the bottom end of it
too
[URL=
http://s909.photobucket.com/user/lozza81he/media/TET/DSCF0445_zps84dfb96f.jpg.h…
/>
All seemed good so cleaned off the old gasket and sealant etc
and gave the pump filter a bit of a clean out too with some
brake cleaner

/>[URL=
http://s909.photobucket.com/user/lozza81he/media/TET/DSCF0447_zpsd79b6335.jpg.h…
/>
Gave the sump a quick rub down and prime with etching primer
before refitting it
[URL=
http://s909.photobucket.com/user/lozza81he/media/TET/DSCF0448_zpsc72499ef.jpg.h…
/>
Also took the lift pump and mounting plate off too as that was
also leaking and also have a quick check of the cam too for any
wear

Strangely though it has a 19J engine number, but I thought all
19J's were turdblow diesel's? rbchn

Mine is an 11j, but I believe that milly spec n/a's used the 19j
block anyway, so perhaps they just thought 'fuck it' with the
one you've got there, what's the number on the injector pump?

Bit more on the engine today and yesterday. Took the head off
yesterday to a check inside and found marks on the pistons where
the inlet valves have hit them and some scoring on the bore of
number 4, looking over the head I cant see any marks on the
valves that match those on the pistons and after chatting with
others about it it's felt thats its snapped a timing belt at
some point, valves have hit and bent etc and that they've put on
this head instead, which would explain why its black and the
rest is in the army recon light blue paintwork. So decided to
chance it and put the head back one with new gaskets etc (and as
said elsewhere on the forum prob wont get change to work on it
again for 2 weeks)
Finished it off today with fitting the manifolds, with an 2 1/4
inlet one with the valve removed and the exhaust one with a
splash of hear resistant black paint
[URL=

/>
Then went onto fitting the new timing belt, bit dirty inside but
didn't seem too old so put it to one side with the tensioner
incase anyone ever needs ones sharpish
[URL=
http://s909.photobucket.com/user/lozza81he/media/TET/DSCF0475_zps599f7f8d.jpg.h…
/>
Cleaned up and new belt and tensioner on

There wasn't anything about a gauze filter/breather at the
bottom of the timing case in the Haynes Book of Lies when taking
the timing cover off so that came as a bit of a surprise,
cleaned up and refitted, but was wondering if thats a military
fitting as the timing case gasket needed cutting off at the
bottom to fit the filter back into place with its own gasket too

After all the shed building and waltyness with the FFR etc etc
its finally back to TET ;D seeing as its a PITA to fit the new
engine mounts for the diesel with that engine in place I thought
I'd cheat and do it with the current petrol engine still in
place.
So radiator and battery tray etc out the way

After spending too much time away from TET I'v got round to
giving him a bit of loving, firstly yesterday re-welding the 2.5
n/a diesel mount with my new (to me) mig welder, and then today
working on the engine by removing the oil cooler thermostat and
plugging up where the pipes went.
[URL=
http://s909.photobucket.com/user/lozza81he/media/TET/DSCF2115_zpsa88ae334.jpg.h…
/>
Then set about removing the flywheel and housing to replace the
rear seal.

After that I decided it was finally time to get some paint on
the engine wdesmle managed to do most of the awkward areas
before lots of load thunder, and just began to rain now.
