Return to: Secessionist Micronational Olympics

Nanolympics

Is anyone interested in forming a secessionist Micronational
olympic committee? I have come up with the name Nanolympics, so
as to differentiate with the current Microlympics, which is held
between both Secessionist and simulationist micronations
currently.
Instead of the way host nations are currently decided in the
microlympics (previous host chooses new host), we would have a
committee, made up of permanent and non-permanent nations, which
would vote on the new host nation based on a number of criterion
and how well a nation fits them.
These criterion would be the following:
- Sporting facilities and infrastructural capability (is the
nation able to provide facilities for sporting events?)
- Media capabilities (can the nation efficiently broadcast the
Olympics to all Micronations involved?)
- Economic capabilities (is the host nation able to afford
equipment and other expenses?)
- Current political climate (is the host candidate often
aggressive?)
Other criterion could be added over time.
I know that Covanellis is not ready to host an Olympics, however
I think that it would be a very good opportunity for
micronational cooperation and interaction. It also puts
Micronations that may have been otherwise unknown on the map
(micronationally), and provide micronationists something to
barrack for in the name of their nation.
I would join the committee, and I will if I get enough support
for this. If you support the idea, reply to show it, and I will
edit this post to include how to join the committee!

What The Kingdom Of Oryland Thinks
I think that the Nanolympic's is a great idea, but there are a
lot of problems. For example not many Micronations have the
money to pay for equipment for the sport's event's and because
most Micronations are quite small they prefer to save their
money for more important purpose's like I do.
But anyone can record the event's live if they have internet
capabilities and can stream the event's live through a website
called Twitch, if they also have a computer. So Media
capabilities can be done by any country with internet and
computer's.
But if they don't have a place to host the event's like a big
building similar to a stadium then the media idea will become
irrelevant and if they don't have facilities to support and
contain the people involved then every single step becomes
irrelevant as well, so this idea does have some fault's, but
when our Micronations become a lot more secure in the economy
point of few then this idea can become a reality.
Sincerely
King Rhys I

Yes, I know that sporting equipment can be expensive (somewhat
overly, don't you think?), however, I have found a way to make
hosting the Nanolympics worthwhile.
Bidding. The Nanolympic Committee could open a bidding service,
where people can bet on who will win an event. I know that
generally my family and I each bet $2 for a major sporting
event, so there is a fair amount to be made there. Also,
merchandise can be sold as a part of the Nanolympics, and
sponsors could donate money in return for advertisement.
I think that your Twitch idea is fantastic! I never even thought
of that! It would make the Nanolympics much easier to keep fair
than YouTube videos (although I would still like to have the
events recorded for future reference).
Also, if a micronation doesn't have the necessary sporting
venues, they can easily use their host macronations venues
(unless they are in the middle of nowhere, because that could
prove problematic). What I meant regarding infrastructure was
mainly asking if they lived in an area where sporting venues
were easily accessible.
Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated, and will
definitely help to make the Nanolympics not only real, but fair
and cost effective!

Betting is an interesting idea, but not every can bet in the
same currency, so you'd have to exchange the amount of money in
a way that works for the currency being used, e.g pound or
dollar.
But I think by sponsor's giving a reasonable sum of money for
advertisement is a great idea, but I don't anyone who owns a
company that is sports related or whatever they wish to
advertise would want to advertise themselves to a Micronation,
because they are a real Nation/Country and so they might not
make any money from advertising themselves and that is the same
with Betting.
Also Twitch stream can be downloaded off the site and kept on a
Hard Drive or any storage component that has the space, I have
done this a lot for my YouTube channel that doesn't actually
relate to Micronations and it also lets everyone see what I've
been doing generally, plus if you show them what you are doing
with your Micronation on YouTube you may be able to gain some
people who also have their own Micronations and want to help
you.
Besides the more support you get, the more likely that the
Namolymics will become a reality.
Merchandise is a brilliant idea because it also help's people
support their favorite Micronation, but this becomes an
irrelevant idea, because not may people know about micronations
and most likely don't want to become of part of knowing about
them and prefer to leave them alone. That is also why almost all
Micronations don't get recognized as a Country/Nation, but that
is a discussion for another time.
Sincerely
King Rhys I

We would have no problems getting sponsors for sports here, the
XXXX factory is in Brisbane and they sponsor just about any
sporting event that goes on, as does Victoria Bitter, and most
telephone service companies.
The merchandise would be for the micronational citizens and
athletes to purchase to commemorate the games. I would probably
buy one so that I could remember them, especially if Covanellis
did really well that year.
Betting would be tricky, I agree, especially from the currency
exchange point of view, however, if we set a rule that we only
accept USD or AUD or whatever, then people could easily get
money exchanged and then use the money to bid. It would be even
better if bidding was done like buying something, because the
currency is automatically exchanged.
The ideas need a bit more development, obviously, but I think
that we are getting some good ideas out at the moment, and
hopefully it continues to stay this way!

Okay, well if you are using other currencies then only use the
major nations/countries currencies, because using lesser money
may not be exchangeable at all.
If you need any help with the Nanolympics then Oryland would be
happy to help you in anyway we can, besides we are allies after
all.

Yes, of course, I think that the currency would be USD, even
though that's not my macronations currency, it is a currency
that is used pretty universally, and also it's stronger than my
currency, so I don't really mind, I actually get more
money...lol!
Thank you, I will be sure to remember to ask you for help should
I ever require it!

I would say none of us are really ready for this yet. We
certainly aren't. In the future I think this is a great idea,
but at the moment, not enough money can really be raised for
this.

I think that the only real cost would be that in Medals and
Opening/Closing ceremony items/tools. Seeing as it would just
about all be hosted online using twitch, the cost of seating,
flights, accomodation, travel and venue renting (among other
things) are all cut.
We wouldn't be able to do it in the next year because I need to
finance a trip to China soon, and Covanellis doesnt have
adequate broadcasting services, although these are both
temporary (maybe we will host the 2016/17 games?, should they go
ahead?).
Thanks for your input, I will wait for four Micronations to
support the proposal before I initiate the move to found the
committee!

I would support the idea of the Nanolymipcs and the committee; I
don't think there's ever been a time when the Republic of USI
has not been willing to join a committee, were sadly
bureaucratic that way. I don't know how well hosting these
micronational olympics would work; judging by the state of our
micronation, I would estimate that we simply couldn't host any
form of olymics until perhaps the year 2026. Still, there's no
harm in starting to plan early on.
Sincerely,
Gabriel N. Pelger
