Vermont vs SB 4/5 1pm
By: Chairman of the Board Date: April 2, 2014, 10:24 am

So much for that HFA with 10 home games, as weve already lost 4
at LaValle. We are 4-4 at home with a solid showing against
Maryland. More concerning though is that we havent won a road
game yet. That's for next week though.
I dont think we looked great against Manhattan or Sacred Heart
(both wins). Tie in four other losses and we havent really had
a great game since Maryland, and that was 3 quarters of good
play.
Our threat is still at faceoff, but its clear that it can be
neutralized. Our other biggest threat is offense and EMO.
Which doesnt convert to Ws without holding the opponent to a
dozen or less. Our other strength is that our offense is
becoming less "role" players and more guys are serving different
roles- Hughes finished a crease feed, Schultz continues to dodge
and clear, Rooney does it all. This makes our team harder to
defend, though, QU's plan to faceguard Easty and pole two mids
(though surrendering 11) got the job done.
Its not surprising that we sometimes collapse in the fourth
quarter; i see our depth getting involved early in the game, yet
not late in the game. Perhaps the issue is, with all these
close games, you need your A team in late in the game.
As for the faceoff, id argue that Judge on the wing is working
(look at our #s) but really, Rowe wins it to himself. So maybe
Judge, who was our only preseason AE honor, needs to be back on
close, where he has been for 3 years. Just a thought, i aint
the coach nor do i really know what's going on. Clearly,
though, the defense needs some help.
At this point, we are in danger of not making the AE tournament,
which is at SB. We were never so close as last year, where we
just squeaked in at 2-3. I think of this as the doomsday
scenario for this program. That brings me to Vermont.
A team weve never lost to, and they are improved. Drew Philie
is graduated. I think Horvath is their best player and senior
leader on offense. They now have a new Canuck on attack that
does a lot of everything. We scored a lot in transition last
year, let's see what happens this year. Ive only seen
highlights, not a full game. Their resume this year isnt
impressive; but they beat SHU much better than we did. And
neither is ours.
Since the UA win doesnt look promising, the BC game is a loss,
we have to win NOW against UVm, Hartford, and Bingo. I suppose
we could drop one and still make the tourney, but id rather be
in the drivers seat.
50' and cloudy. GO SB

We won in conference play which is always good. Pretty much
every team had a good weekend including tennis.

Thank god for Johnstone in this one of it would have been
another lose...the kid was making saves on his head.
