| At the beginning of the year, we'd certainly have been smitten | |
| with 10-3, 9-4 or 8-5. And here we are in a great position to | |
| most certainly exceed expectations. | |
| I know the MAC won't soon be mistaken for the ACC, but for a MAC | |
| team to come into our gym feels like a feather in our cap, even | |
| a bad MAC team. We see a lot of same squads come through here, | |
| and it's nice to have something different. | |
| With this one, we have a chance to match our win total from last | |
| year in mid-December, and to run our home win streak to eight, | |
| which would be our longest since we ripped off 15 straight over | |
| two seasons in the mid-2010s. Attendance was, from my | |
| perspective, probably the lowest since that period on Tuesday | |
| against Columbia a meager 1,196. I'd love it if this success | |
| somehow got more people out to the game, but I'm skeptical of | |
| that. Let's keep it rolling anyway. | |
| Besides the uniforms, CMU looks literally nothing like what we | |
| saw last year. They let Tony Barbee go after four underwhelming | |
| years, and everybody ran for the hills 14 guys in the portal, | |
| 100% of their every-single-stat gone. They brought in Andy | |
| Bronkema, who won a national title at Division II Ferris State, | |
| and he pieced together quite the motley crew, from places like | |
| Wayne State, IU-South Bend, Kentucky Wesleyan and, of course, | |
| his prior stop. He did also bring in Brooks, a highly acclaimed | |
| recruit from Michigan who was Mr. Basketball in the state but | |
| never played meaningful minutes in Ann Arbor. The move did allow | |
| him to play with his brother, Jorden, who's a redshirt junior | |
| with the Chippewas. | |
| These D-II guys seem like good supporting cast members, but that | |
| Claerbut is their leading scorer is an indictment on the roster. | |
| He averaged less than 10 points a night at the D-II level, and | |
| is now tops on the scoreboard for CMU. Adley's somebody who can | |
| put up a big number he had 22 in a nice season-opening win | |
| over App State, and a team-high 19 in this past weekend's | |
| shellacking at the hands of Saint Louis. I expected more out of | |
| Brooks. He has a really stilted shooting motion, which makes me | |
| think he got by on speed and athleticism in high school but, | |
| especially with a lack of size, it didn't hold up against better | |
| competition in college. He's 0 for 10 from three this year. I | |
| was looking at a short transfer portal video of him on YouTube, | |
| and the last "highlight" was a free throw that he banked. Yikes. | |
| I'm curious about this kid Will Ashford, who got his first start | |
| against SLU and stood out a bit as a versatile wing. I thought | |
| he was all right. | |
| Pratt has put us in a situation where the first question you | |
| have to ask is "who could possibly guard him?" That's a valid | |
| question here. This is a high major talent with more in his bag | |
| than Santa. CMU played SLU without one of their more experienced | |
| guys Rodney Johnson who was good for Tennessee Tech before | |
| transferring in. If he's out again, that's a loss. | |
| Elsewhere in our backcourt, It's good to see TO is back getting | |
| a full complement of minutes. Love him off the bench as someone | |
| who can score in a few ways too. Altogether, we're on pace to | |
| average more assists per game since, you guessed it, the 2015-16 | |
| season. We'll see if we stay on that pace. The D-III games can | |
| skew that. But the offense is undeniably more fluid than it has | |
| been, which has been so so nice to see. | |
| Noon start. Holiday season. Great time to bring the whole family | |
| to the game. Hope to see it. | |

| ill say it- we dont feel like a 7-3 team. i suppose it's | |
| because we played Farm State and SJ-LI. | |

| Pratt gets his points in rather quiet, sneaky ways frequently, | |
| and I've had this feeling he's missed a few easy ones and also | |
| perhaps not taken shots when he should have. Just get a sense we | |
| have yet to see a really "On" offensive game from him, and if we | |
| do I bet he puts up a big number. | |
| Will Claerbaut be enough of a 7-ft concern that Kojenets gets | |
| some more PT? | |
| I hope that whoever might be in charge of this will really | |
| push/promote/give away tickets in the community with a focus on | |
| kids. Could potentially get a crowd of young ones for this | |
| day/time. | |

| maybe we are too concerned with december games. isnt the trick | |
| just to get hot in march? like we did a few years ago. | |

| its good for the team and good for the league to win these | |
| games. | |
| But yeah. you are right. at the end of the day you need to get | |
| hot during the CAA tournament | |

| About as good of a first four minutes as we can play. 11-point | |
| lead already and a 7-0 advantage on the glass. | |

| I know Central Michigan isn't having a great year and they're | |
| not even a super big brand, but it does feel different to | |
| actually be hosting a MAC school. | |
| 32-16 at the 8 min media timeout. Liking it. | |
| 41-16! I love how much diversity in scoring there's been. | |

| What a rout baby. I don't care whether CMU is good or not. I | |
| just like a good ole beating against a Division I opponent. | |
| LFG SEAWOLVES! | |
| Like I said... Let's finish OOC 3-0 please! | |

| Also. I finally got IPTV this year (never really had Cable TV) | |
| so it feels great to be able to watch my wolves on SNY from | |
| afar. | |
| I wish I lived a bit closer to the Brook. We need a serious | |
| attendance bump | |

| Fade the Chippewas. Woof. | |
| I mean, 45-18 on the glass. It's not our biggest margin ever | |
| we were +31 against USMMA in November 2015. But when was the | |
| last time we were +27 in boards against a Division I opponent? | |
| The answer: Bernstein has to get on this one or else we may | |
| never know. It's been at least 10 years. | |
| I did find when the last time was we shot 57 percent or higher | |
| against a Division I team February 15, 2024 against Hampton, | |
| when we hit better than 64 percent of our shots. | |
| We're just watching a different brand of basketball. I was | |
| saying to some friends that it hasn't ever been this fluid in | |
| the time I've been watching, which isn't as long as some of you | |
| but still. Or maybe I'm forgetting some periods of time (which | |
| would not be surprising whatsoever) ... but I do think that, so | |
| often under Pikiell and Geno, it was dribble dribble dribble, no | |
| movement, no layups or dunks off cuts, contested shots | |
| everywhere, haphazard shot selection, nothing easy. We'd see | |
| other teams do it, but it was never us. Now we're seeing it. It | |
| helps to have a glut of shooters I'd say we have seven or | |
| eight guys who you're totally fine with shooting an open three. | |
| That spaces the floor and opens up driving lanes, and we have | |
| guys who can put it on the floor. | |
| Really nice minutes from Kojenets today, and obviously a supreme | |
| outing from Shoshkikj. One of the best things was Rob Brown's | |
| day. I thought he looked great. All quality shots and he knocked | |
| down 5 of 7. We're going to need him. Keep shooting it. | |
| It's great to see the end of the bench get in. They're working | |
| hard too. It's some situation we're in where Simmon can | |
| absolutely save us against Bethune Cookman and then he's a | |
| mop-up guy not long after. What a luxury to have that weapon | |
| available if need be. | |
| The negative: Obviously the 20 turnovers. No bueno. | |
| Still, this year we're tied for the second best record after 11 | |
| games in school history, trailing Boals' 9-2 team in 2018-19, | |
| and tying Pikiell's 2012-23 team at 8-3. We'll enter our next | |
| game with the program's highest KenPom since the CAA tournament | |
| run in 2024, and as for sustained KenPom in the regular season, | |
| you'd have to go back to the 2019-20 season when we maxed out at | |
| 119. Pretty awesome. | |
