[emoji1371] 2pm tip time [emoji1372]
Five wins in five days. Realistically, flat-out, it's not going
to happen, not with the teams in front of us, so many games, so
few healthy players. But it would be nice if we could send a
couple teams home and finish the season on a high.
Delaware's a team that really struggles on the glass, finishing
dead last in margin, by a wide margin, at -5.4 in conference
play. Seven times in conference play, and 11 times all season,
Delaware finished -10 or worse in the rebounding category. In
those games, not surprisingly, they were 1-10. Twice they were
+10 or better January 9 against A&T, and a week later against
us. And they killed us inside altogether, outscoring us 44-22 in
the paint.
But are we really going to compare the team we saw in
mid-January with the one that's out there now? We've definitely
jelled.
Like us, Delaware's really light inside, and teams aren't
letting them off the hook for it. CAA opponents have shot nearly
48.6% percent from the field almost 10 percent worse than
league leader Hofstra (.398) and the damage is really being
done in the key. On Saturday, UNCW was +22 in the paint. On
Thursday, Charleston was +14. We are no force on the glass, but
I feel more comfortable going into a game knowing, or at least
thinking, that it's even on that front.
Andre Snoddy in his last 11 games: 15 points, 11 boards a night.
What a home stretch. We've made the Josh Hart comparison before,
and as a big Knicks guy, I think Snoddy would like that
comparison. It's not just what he does statistically; it's the
leadership and non-stop nature that seems to have rub off on
everybody.
Tangent: A small tweak to my All-CAA teams ...
1st: Brzovic (POY), King, Newby, Tejada, Duggan
2nd: Bashir, Aranguren, Camden, MaGee, Fulton
3rd: Simpkins, Dorsey, Williamson, Boyd, Luster
I can't figure how to get Lamothe or anyone from Hampton on the
team, even though Hampton really came along in the second half
of the year.
I'm thinking we play with seven on Friday and almost certainly
40 minutes from Snoddy and O'Connor and possibly Luster. I can't
imagine Octave and Frey return, and Philip was walking around in
a boot on Saturday, so his return seems unlikely. Yet still
Nyarko got the DNP. I don't know why he can't give us 4-6
minutes, but I guess there's some overlap with Nahar and Gorman
now.
The line's about right a slight edge to Delaware but real
close to a toss-up. We've been playing inspired basketball and
beat two pretty solid teams. We haven't been smothering
defensively, but we've definitely ratcheted it up. Without a lot
of resistance, and with the Blue Hens not really being a big
turnover team, I think we can get into the 70s here. I'll keep
an open mind. Could live to see another day and see Delaware off
to C-USA.

Word from a reliable source - we have Sabry for 1 game, but no
back-to-back. So looks like we'll play with 8 on Friday, unless
we get into unforeseen foul trouble.

Tejada is a surprise as player of the year. Good for Luster and
Colin. Sounds like 40 mins for Colin, CJ and Dre on Friday.

SB hanging in there but need to defend better. Feels like its a
few possessions from getting out of hand. No Gorman?

Delaware's balance is so noticeable here. Four, even five guys
on the floor who can score at all times. On pace for 90.

Well, Delaware didn't give up their effort, that's for sure. And
that was the main appeal of this game for us. How did they do so
poorly this year? Their defense is too much effort for us,
really.

Delaware looks like a top seeded SEC team. In the alternative SB
looks like a high level D2 team

Delusional fan that I am, Im thinking cut it to 10 And maybe
somehow get it to five at the five minute mark. Maybe Delaware
will cool off, but theyre getting so many open looks.
