Trackside

Yesterday it was such a glorious day - the warmest so far this
year - and we went to the East Lancs Railway in Bury where we
sat in the sunshine trackside with a couple of very good pints
of real ale and watching the trains. There was a diesel and
also War Department tank engine called 'Sapper' and then an old
diesel shunting engine brought the 'Pullman' train into the
platform ready for the evening diners.

in British locos.

Good to see you Pat. Glad you are here. Love the photo of the
old stream trains. I used to travel every work day up to London
from Sussex in them , starting a few days before my 15th
birthday...I do remember crying in the 50's when they pulled
them off and gave us diesel train.....the old steamer have a
personality all of their own :)

I love the noise of them and the smell of them as they get up a
head of steam. They have had some beauties on this track which
runs a full service five days a week all with volunteers. They
also run special events like a forties weekend or a Thomas the
Tank weekend as well as afternoon teas and evening fine dining
in the Pullman trains. www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk

Its been lovely this morning with warm sun and clear blue
skies. I took my first cuppa of the day out on the front and
fed the birds and then sat there quietly watching them and
listening to them as I prayed in tongues. Later we painted our
new bench with a second coat of Danish and then did a bit of
tidying, sat out in the back with a cuppa for half an hour,
watered the planters and cut off four ash tree saplings and then
had lunch.
It's really gorgeous with all the flowers out and the birds
singing and making frequent visits to the feeders. We think we
might look for a philadelphus for the back garden and maybe a
small choisya as well.
