we're the asteroid that's overdue [ open ]

Its been a moon since Flora was welcomed into the Clan, and her
biggest kitten was already accustomed to falling underneath
warriors' paws. The young queen was settled near the nursery,
tail flicking as she was tucked into a mouse, still not used to
the warm food. She ate pellets back home, and maybe sometimes
some slimy ham. But nothing like this.
"Momma! Look at this!" the brown and white tom stumbled back to
his mother, a poppy flower grasped in his jaws. Despite the
cold, it seemed to be a strong stem and flower. "Muddypaw
brought me this!" Badgerkit exclaimed, looking over his shoulder
at the large apprentice. The point rolled his eyes.
"I brought it back as proof that Green-leaf was coming soon. The
little bugger wanted it." he explained, tail lashing. He wasn't
fond of the kitty-pets Lightningstar allowed in the Clan, but
couldn't say anything. He was just an apprentice, not a warrior,
or anything else. Flora flicked her ear, dismissing Muddypaw and
practically telling him to bug off. The apprentice obeyed,
taking leave with his mentor.
"Its beautiful, sweetheart." Flora hummed as she turned her
attention to her son. She didn't know where Snowkit was, but
both tomkits seemed okay with running around the camp, so she
wasn't too worried about it.
Anyways, Badgerkit beemed and looked at the head of the flower,
where a few of the seeds were popping out. "Oh! Do you think you
could eat them?" he asked, head tilted. Flora shivered and shook
her head.
"Your father got terribly sick after eating something like that.
So, I recommend you don't." she told him. He squeaked and
nodded, placing the flower down before running off to go bother
someone.

Silentstripe slept in late that day, but was woken up by the
excited squeals of a kit. Badgerkit.. he thought
annoyedly, flicking his ear. He pushed himself out of his nest,
shivering as he made his way out of the warrior's area. He
looked over to the nursery, rolling his eyes at the sight of
Muddypaw. He always felt that apprentices were trouble-makers,
especially the apprentice that wanted to be ranked up in the
Clan. Not before me, he thought stubbornly, walking to the
fresh-kill pile.

Silentstripe was one of the few cats that Badgerkit actually
cared about. After all, Flora told him stories of the tabby tom,
and how he would be dead without the warriors help. The white
and brown tom bounced over to the warrior, grinning up a storm.
"Hey, Silentstripe! How have you been?" he asked, eyes
twinkling.

The warrior picked through the pile before grabbing a squirrel
that had been caught the night before. He had just begun to bite
into it before he felt a bundle of fur plop down next to him. He
straightened up, heaving a sigh as he turned to Badgerkit. "Hey,
kid. I've been fine," he said. Silentstripe leaned down again to
bite into the squirrel.

Snowkit, as his mother thought, was exploring around the camp,
excited that he was finally able to do so. He had been sick for
a while now, and had just recently gotten better to the point
whee he could do what he wanted to. Eventually, though, he had
gotten bored of just wandering around. He caught sight of
Badgerkit and Silentstripe and ran over, trying to tackle his
brother with a playful battle cry. He seemed to completely
disregard the fact that his brother was talking to someone.

"Oh, that's good! I'm fine, too. Great even! Momma said-" the
tom was about to go on a tangent when Snowkit tackled him,
easily bowling him over due to the surprise. Badgerkit let out a
squeal and wriggled out from his brother's grasp, swiping his
front paws at the others and continuing the mock fight, as if
Silentstripe wasn't there and he wasn't eating.

After dropping a couple of fresh-kill in the pile, Lynxpath
walked past the two kittens wrestling around and disturbing the
stoic warrior. He couldn't help but smile with amusement, but
thankfully he held in a chuckle. He wasn't eager to get on
Silentstripe's bad side. Then again, he didn't help him either.
Instead the warrior walked up to Flora, who seemed to be left
alone after her moon-old kittens pranced off to play. Lynxpath
hadn't spoken to the queen very much, if at all, and wanted to
show he was friendly despite getting caught up in his duties
most of the time. "Hello, Flora," he greeted. "How's clan life
treating you?"

He squeaked as he was hit with his brother's paws, quickly
backing up and trying to cuff Badgerkit's head, a little grin on
his face as he did so. He knew how this fight would end; it
would be in the same way it always did, because of the size
difference between them and his disadvantage. Snowkit still had
fun, though, which was what mattered.

The warrior rolled his eyes. He watched the kits fight, biting
into his prey and trying to ignore the occasional bumps when the
kits tumbled into him. He felt a twinge of something deep in his
chest as he saw Lynxpelt, who was staring at him with a look of
amusement. Silenstripe scowled as he turned away to greet the
mother of the kits, and he continued watching the two as they
carried in with their mock battle.

Knowing that he could maybe overpower his brother, Badgerkit
faked the pain he felt from the blow. He fell back,
dramatically, squealing all the way. The tom then scrambled to
get his footing and bounced back to Silverstripe, acting as if
he was out of breath. Maybe he was. "Silentstripe! You gotta
help me, Snowclaw is gonna beat me!" the tom claimed, using a
made up warrior name for his brother.
Flora had been prodding the mouse she was enjoying when the
warrior walked over. She stared blankly for a few moments,
unsure what to say, before shrugging. "Its going well. The boys
seem to be shaping up to be nice little warriors. Ah, how old do
they have to be, to be apprenticed?" she asked, worry flashing
in her eyes. Even in a few moons, Snowkit would be tiny, and she
didn't know how she felt about him training under anyone,
especially Muddypaw, if that happened.
