i'm a lone red rover [ open ]

The young orange tabby attempted to slink forward, his amber
gaze locked on a mouse scurrying over the ground. It nibbled on
a weed, seeming oblivious to the hunter approaching. However,
when the tom darted forward, the field mouse squeaked and
disappeared into the weeds. "Damn it," Emberpaw muttered,
panting and standing up slowly. This was the third- no, fourth
time he messed up a hunt. Maybe it was his injured shoulder that
made him walk like lopsided badger, or his heavy breathing, that
suddenly made hunting so difficult. Either way he was going to
starve himself. He wasn't a very good hunter anyway. That was
Floatingpaw. She could catch a squirrel before he could even
smell it. He probably would've become a warrior in a moon or two
if his Clan was still alive. Some warrior he would make.
Emberpaw sighed, heading over to a tall tree in the meadow where
he curled up and rested his head on his paws. He closed his
eyes, but his grumbling stomach and restless mind kept him from
getting any rest.

Among some taller grass, a young black she-cat was watching.
Amusement glittered in her eyes, yet she felt sympathy for the
ginger cat. She stood up straight, drawing her tongue over her
shoulder a few times, before walking over to the tree that
Emberpaw rested by. "Bad luck, eh kiddo?" She yawned, circling
slowly around the tree.

Emberpaw instantly opened his eyes when he heard someone
approaching. Slowly sitting up, he warily watched the she-cat
circle the tree. Where did she come from? He really was bad at
hunting if he couldn't even scent her nearby. "Uh, yeah, I
suppose. You were watching me..?" he asked, smirking a little.

"Well, It's kinda hard to ignore a lop-sided kittybadger who
fails to hunt several times." She replied playfully. Adding in a
more sympathetic tone, she asked "Do you need some help?"

Oh, right. That probably wasn't too hot to look at. And as
hungry as he was, Emberpaw didn't really want her help, as that
would only make him feel worse. It was a pride thing. "Maybe.
What kind of help did you have in mind?" he grinned, tail
lashing. Apparently, the rascal couldn't stop flirting even if
he wanted too.

"Well uh.. Maybe I can hunt for you for a while to help get your
strenth up?" She suggested. "And your wounds need a good check
up."

His grin faded and his eyes narrowed with slight irritation.
That was exactly what he didn't want, but what was he going to
do? Prove he could hunt on his own? He knew he couldn't; not
until something was done about his shoulder that seemed out of
place. The rest of his body wasn't in great condition either,
for he was littered with cuts and bruises. "Well, isn't that
real nice of you," the former apprentice sighed. "Why do you
want to help me anyway? You don't even know my name."

"Well, of course, if you don't want me to help, you can just lay
here and pity yourself while you slowly starve, or die of blood
loss, or get eaten.. Shall I continue?" She snorted. "I don't
let cats die. That's why I'm trying to help you."

Emberpaw frowned, thinking for a moment or two. "You do make a
good point. I guess you can, if that's what you want. I won't
stop you," the young tom replied, lying back down and resting
his chin on his paw. Honestly, he didn't feel like he had much
to live for. Both of his siblings were probably dead. There was
always the lingering possibility in his mind, but he didn't want
to get his hopes up. He had been staring out at nothing for a
few seconds before he turned to face to she-cat once again.
"What's your name, anyway?"

She tilted her head. "My name's Aloe." She replied simply.
"Anyway, I'm going to hunt. Tell me if there's anything you
won't eat? I'm not gonna go hunt for nothing." She asked
