take it from me [ mermaids ]

Long story short, I found a mermaid doll creator online, and as
I was messing around with it, I began creating a little story in
my head. Thought it would be cool to write it down before I
forget, and here I am!! I doubt that I'll ever finish this. If
anything, it'll just have additions here and there. I do have
other pieces of writing (one being my diary shhshh) that I would
rather keep up on more so than this, so. Yeah. Have fun, I
guess.
[spoiler=all the dolls i made augh. see if you can make up your
own story about them, i guess. but this upcoming one comes from
my brain so. good luck topping that hA]also pls realize that
some of the character dolls are already
like
transformed (which happens later in the story)
so uh. just ignore that aha )

That's practically a motto down here. You hear it left and
right, from the mother telling her children that the blue fish
would play better than the green one, or from the king himself
telling his children that life swimming is better than walking.
It's just better, he would reiterate when his beloved daughter
would speak up. She, as most stories would go, was the youngest
of all of her siblings. And one of the only survivors.
That was another thing her father used against her when she
asked about the surface and the land. You see, at one point, she
had many sisters and brothers. Now she was just left with a
brother. Why? Her other siblings decided to go on a trip way out
of the kingdom's boundaries, deciding to use the singing gift
bestowed on them from their ancestors. Things didn't turn out
well and... well, it would be best to leave it at that they only
returned in pieces.
The gift of song was something passed down to the mermaids
by their ancestors, the sirens. Sirens occupied themselves with
sinking ships and swindling land dwellers into drowning
themselves. Life went on, and the sirens evolved into mermaids,
which ended up pulling away from the shore and living far off
the coast, where no land dweller dare to go. It was safer there,
the king would say. No one could hurt anyone, he would continue.
Well, that's kind of a lie now, isn't it? Her siblings are dead
now because they believed that, and the king believed that his
last daughter would follow the same path with her thought
process of things.
The king's name was Viridian. He came to be king from his
parents, as his kingdom was ran on monarchy. His wife's name was
Tyrian, and his son's was Venetian. And, finally, his daughter
was Celeste. And, as if things couldn't get more predictable in
this previous story telling, I am his daughter. Big reveal,
isn't it? Well, I'll tell you know that this is only the
beginning, and if you want me to get on with the real story,
you'll have to hear some back story first.
You already know about our history with humans, our names,
our relations... Oh, wait, I didn't tell you about my mother
yet, have I? Well... uh... she isn't a sight for sore eyes. More
like, she'll make your eyes sore. I've seen pictures of her
before. She looked a lot like my oldest sister, Cerise, who is
dead, like mentioned a few times now. She was beautiful,
graceful. My father told me that she was also incredibly nice.
Then... she had us kids. She wasn't happy with her body after us
children and went to and underwater witch doctor for help. He
swindled her and changed her into who she is now - an octopus.
Though, despite this and despite other stories that you've
heard, she loves me and my brother. To pieces, even.
Okay, that sets up more relations for you. I would go into
detail about my siblings but, in all honesty, who wants to talk
about dead fish? Exactly. So, I'll just move on to our bodies.
We are water and air breathers. It would make sense - half
human, half fish? Some of us, though, aren't exactly pure
mermaid. My friend, Rose, is more fish than anything. You can
see her scales so clearly that sometimes, its scary. Then
there's Venetian, who's half eel instead of half fish. It
continues to half dolphin, half shark, et cetera. Its more of a
develop over time type of thing. Everyone has the genes, but
only certain ones show. It's sort of like how skin color is to
humans, except we don't discriminate.
What? Our skin colors? What about them? Oh, they're weird?
Well, they're normal here. We all have a color scheme. Let it be
red, blue, or green. Rose, though, thought it would be fun to
fight that system and color her hair. In all honesty, we only
give her big reactions to make her feel accomplished. It really
doesn't change much about her. We also have these spots on our
skin that I like to think resembles human freckles...
Oh, the humans! They seem so fun, and they also seem like
they can do so much more up there. I don't really have legs, if
you didn't notice. I can't run up to them and giggle and play
with their beach balls. I ask mother and father about the witch
doctor sometimes, curious as to if he could give me legs for a
day, so I could have fun. They shut me down, immediately.
Apparently, it isn't okay for a fully grown mermaid to have
dreams.
Whatever. I'll find a way up there and I'll have my fun,
just you watch. But, for now, have fun with this prologue.
Chapter one will commence soon, promise.
