LOVE AND YOUR EGO REST IN PEACE [ private, dawny ]
By: Raven` Date: February 10, 2015, 5:49 am

Winterpaw slipped out of the leader's den. Although she hadn't
started sleeping in there because of her kits, she wanted to
look around. It was spacious, and still smelled incredibly of
her father. Although the scent was comforting, it sent her
reeling out of the cave, reminding her that no matter how hard
she tried, she would never be as great as him. He was big and
tall, she was small and short. He was confident, she stuttered
on every other word.
He was comfortable with his gender. She... wasn't.
The female sighed, her shoulders sinking as she leaned against
the wall.

( i foRGOTS TO REPLY I'M SORRYY ;w; )
Coalfang scuffed his large paws over the ground as he entered
camp. Two mouse-like rodents dangled from his jaws, limply
letting their stiff bodies swing. He had hunted them down in the
canyon gorge, and was bringing them back for the Clan, like any
warrior should. It was...different, being a warrior. Most of his
life, he walked every path of his territory like he owned the
place, and yeah, he did. Nothing changed about him being the
founder of the Clan. Generations would come and queens and
elders would tell their kittens stories of the great AshClan
founder, Coalstar. Even thinking of that, it didn't feel like he
had done enough. He almost felt like his life wasn't worth
anything. What great thing did he really do? He gave some cats a
home, then made them battle nonstop with FrozenClan. He found
love, yet he still had captured her and kept her in a different
Clan, nothing like her dear home, for a long time. He had
kittens who barely knew him, and he barely knew them, except
Winterpaw. And then because he felt useless, he just gave up
being a leader. He just gave up, didn't he?
Coalfang shook his head with a frustrated sigh. He approached
the pile of fresh-kill and tossed his catch on top. The dark
smoke tabby lifted his head and looked around the dusty cave,
the scorching sun shining in through the entrance. He landed his
green eyes on Winterpaw, sulking by the leader den. She looked
stressed and defeated. Could she really take this? He forcefully
told himself she would be fine, she would be a great leader,
even greater than he. But that small thought still clawed at him
from the inside out.
Hesitantly, her father pushed himself forward and walked over to
Winterpaw, his ears perking up hopefully. "Hey, uh, how's it
going?" he asked calmly, eyes still settled on her soft blue
eyes, like her mother's.
( okay what when did you get here muse )

( itS FINE I STILL LOVE YOU )
Winterpaw had been startled by her father's voice, scrambling to
her paws. She winced slightly as the room spun for a split
second, an after effect of getting up too fast. She gulped as
she focused her gaze on her father, everything coming back into
focus rather quickly.
"S-sorry, Daddy." she squeaked, blinking a few times to get used
to everything that was no longer blurry or moving. "I didn't--
I'm sorry-- I just--" she tried to form apologies, her brain
taking a while to process what he said. Oh. So she wasn't in
trouble. Okay. Great job, Winterpaw. You just proved how much of
a ditsy pushover you could be. The she-cat gulped again,
flattening her ears on her head.
"Sorry, Daddy.." she apologized again, looking down at her paws.
"I'm... I'm doing... fine.." she looked for words, trying to
focus on not stuttering and making up for her little mess up a
few moments before. "I was just scoping out the den and... its
really nice.. I don't see why you gave it up.." she murmured,
referencing more to why he gave her the position instead of the
den. "Uhm... How are you, Daddy..?" she finally asked.

Coalfang smiled a bit, sympathetic and a little worried for his
baby girl. She was stronger than she looked, though. "I'm fine.
Everything's fine, you don't have to worry," he said calmly,
even with the gruff voice and tough look he had. "I know this is
a lot for you, but it will sink in eventually," he tried to
soothe her as he sat down.

Winterpaw gulped once more as she listened to her father's
words. "But-" she cut herself off, looking down at her paws.
"You're right... sorry, Daddy.." she apologized again, her tail
wrapping tight around her body. She was still a moderate sized
she-cat. But her thin frame, and the way she held herself, gave
way to the idea that she might be smaller than led on to be. "I
know it will. I'm just... scared. What if I make a bad choice?
What if the Clan doesn't like me after all? What if--" she, once
again, cut herself off, muttering yet another 'sorry' under her
breath.
