So yeah, I had this idea while trying to sleep last night. I was
probably half-dead when I wrote this so sorry if it melts your
brains. It has a lot of characters' names that I roleplay here
because I was feeling very uncreative with traditional names,
but they aren't related in any way to the characters in the
story.
Summary/Blurb: When Sunny the kittypet meets Waterheart, an
ex-RiverClan warrior, she is very interested in the life he used
to live before he became a rogue. With his help, she forms a
Clan of her own, SunClan. However, her hot temper, pride, and
overall inexperience make it difficult to be a good leader.

Prologue
It was the end of a long green-leaf, and leaf-fall was
fast-approaching. The leaves on the trees, once so vibrant, had
started to fade into shades of yellow, orange, and red. A crisp
breeze rustled through the branches, causing even the largest
trees to sway a bit.
Mintstar fluffed up her pelt to keep the cold out and looked
down from the tree she was perched in. She saw her Clan-- her
small, small clan-- preparing to go to sleep; her deputy and
medicine cat apprentice were sharing tongues, her two warriors
were sharing a vole, and... That was it. That was her whole
Clan.
Mintstar shuddered with worry. Would they even make it through
leaf-bare? Please help us, StarClan, she begged silently,
closing her pale green eyes for a moment.
Suddenly, the aging she-cat felt an icy blast of wind on her
pelt and opened her eyes. "N-Nightlight?" She hadn't been able
to communicate with the former medicine cat for moons since he
passed away, and Mintstar missed him gravely.
"Yes, it's me," a strong, masculine voice purred behind her.
Mintstar turned around swiftly and her expression melted into a
smile.
"I-- I miss you so much." She leaned into her brother's soft
fur, relishing his warmth.
"I know. Me too," he whispered.
Lifting her head from Nightlight's shoulder, she spoke again.
"The Clan hasn't been doing too well since you left us. Plumpaw
is doing her best, but without a mentor, she doesn't know
everything she should. And-- and there's only five of us left."
Nightlight's blue gaze softened and he offered a small smile.
"That's why I came to see you. I have a message from StarClan:
the water may dry up by the sun, but there will come a time when
the land is scorched and dry and the only thing that will heal
it is rain."
"What's that supposed to mean? Nightlight? Please! Don't go!"
Mintstar screeched, aiming to pounce on her brother and hold him
there. But he had already faded away into the darkness, and
Mintstar was left alone again on her tree perch to ponder the
fate of her cats.
Does this mean that we will survive?
Chapter 1
All was peaceful and quiet as Sunny lied on the back porch,
trying to absorb as much warmth as she could from the dying sun.
She hated cold weather, but what she hated even more was having
to stay inside with her twolegs. She felt so confined in that
little space, and it was very difficult to get back out once she
went in. She would meow for hours on end and they still wouldn't
open the door! Sunny couldn't tell if they were deaf or just
stupid.
Screech!
She heard something metal hit cement, and two dogs started
barking as a gray striped cat scrambled over the fence, pelt a
mess and tail fluffier than Sunny could ever make hers. The
large tom had a few noticeable scratches, and he had a limp as
he started to make his way over to Sunny.
"Who are you?" she asked, taking a few steps back from the
stranger.
"Thanks for asking if I'm okay." The gray tabby snorted and
turned to lick a scratch on his back. "Waterheart."
"What?"
"Waterheart. That's my name."
"Oh."
"And you are?"
"I'm Sunny." She looked to the side, tail tip twitching. Seeing
as he was not going to leave by himself, she mewed, "Well, the
sun's starting to set. I should go inside."
Waterheart nodded. "See you then, Sunny!" he purred before
getting up and heading toward the opposite fence that he came
from.
After he'd left, Sunny stretched and stood up, then walked to
the back door and meowed to get inside. It took quite a while
this time for her "Twolegs" to respond, but after a few minutes
she was finally able to curl up by the fire and rest.
--
Ahh, morning. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and
Sunny was trapped between that beautiful world and her dull,
icky-smelling house by a pane of glass. "Come on, you lazy
Twolegs! Get up and let me out already!" Sunny whined, jumping
up onto one of her sleeping housefolk. She liked the terminology
she'd learned from Waterheart yesterday. Speaking of the silver
tabby, where had he gone for the night? He couldn't have just
slept outside; he would have frozen to death! Sunny's
complaining meows became louder and more urgent as she started
to worry about her friend.
"Mrrrow!" she whined, and finally the huge lump that was her
Twoleg rose to his paws and opened the door for her. "Took you a
while," she mewed curtly before dashing outside onto the porch.
Now where could Waterheart be?
"Hello, Sunny!"
Sunny looked up to the source of the sound and was happy to see
the silhouette of her gray friend behind a cluster of bushes.
"Waterheart!" she purred, and a question popped into her mind.
"Why such a long name?" she asked, hoping the question didn't
come across as rude.
Waterheart blinked, seemingly confused by the unsolicited
question. "It's only one syllable longer than yours." He
smirked. "But yeah, I know it's weird. I used to be a warrior,
so."
"Warrior? So was that what you were doing yesterday? Fighting
those dogs?"
The tom's copper eyes were lit with amusement. "No, I
accidentally knocked over a waste container, and--"
"A trash can, you mean?" Sunny laughed. "You must be new here."
"I was going to get to that." He waved his tail in annoyance,
and Sunny felt a rush of embarrassment for interrupting his
story. "So I knocked over this thing and then these two giant
dogs come out of nowhere and start attacking me! I thought I was
going to die. But then I saw an opening between them, ran toward
the wooden divider, and leaped majestically over it, avoiding my
certain doom."
"You didn't smell them coming?"
"I smelled a whole lot of things! There are so many scents in
the Twolegplace. It's overwhelming."
"Twoleg... Place?"
"You're such a kittypet! It's where Twolegs live. Those weird,
hairless animals that you live with."
Sunny's tail tip twitched. He was starting to sound a bit
pretentious. "Oh. So if you didn't grow up in the Twolegplace,
then where?"
"I told you, I was a Clan cat!"
"Uh-uh, I don't remember that."
"Hmm, well, I said I was a warrior. I thought that was clear
enough."
"I literally have no idea what you're talking about."
Waterheart sighed. "It might take a while to explain. Do you
have time?"
