UNTITLED STORY && FEEL FREE TO TRACK
By: dawnfire111 Date: May 22, 2014, 1:09 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
PROLOGUE
As the cold, merciless wind howled and pulled at the trees and
forest plants, a small mewl was hidden underneath the harsh
sounds and rain. Nobody to hear the pitiful cry and come
running. Nobody to protect her from the stinging rain and
freezing winds. And nobody to love and hold her. She was all
alone now, this little kitten who was barely holding onto her
life as she searched for a home.
Crawling through sinking mud, flapping leaves, and sharp rocks,
the she-kit trudged on until she could no more. So she just laid
there, ready to fall into an everlasting sleep. But, apparently,
someone else wasn't ready for that. Though too tired to open her
eyes and see the dark world around her, she could hear things.
Voices, to be exact.
"Mia, I'm telling you! I heard a kit!" an adolescent-aged tom
hissedd sharply through the whistling wind.
"Get over it, Sean! You were just hallucinating like you always
do." a cold female voice growled.
A frustrating hiss was heard from the male. "No, I was not! I-"
he stopped mid-sentence.
After a moment or too, she heard, "Um...Sean?" He gave no reply.
Then, suddenly, she felt something touch her flank. A soft paw,
she discovered. She struggled to move, just so they knew she was
alive if there was any hope at all of them saving her. The
matted kitten breathed in and out deeply, and the paw lifted
along with his voice. "It's moving! I-it's breathing!" Sean
shouted, stepping back.
"What?" As the wind quieted, very faint footsteps were heard
heading towards her. "Ew, what is that? A rat?" Mia snarled,
sounding disgusted.
"I don't think so..." Sean moved closer again and took in a
whiff. "It's a...It's a kitten for crying out loud!" he yelled
once more.
"What?! We need to take it back then!" Mia replied loudly,
suddenly caring for the mud-caked corpse as she slid by her side
and gently picked her up by her neck scruff. The kitten let out
a soft groan as she was lifted into the air and carefully being
transported to a new home.

CHAPTER ONE
Four kittens, two tabby she-kits, a black tom, and a
tortoiseshell she-kit, huddled in the corner of a den while a
small calico female stood in front of them, lashing her short
tail and hissing ferociously. "Stay away from us, you liar!" she
screamed.
"Tera, please listen to me! You need to GO!" a towering,
muscular brown tabby rumbled in reply, digging his long claws
into the ground.
"What is WRONG with you?! I don't want to leave you, Josef!! Why
aren't you telling me anything?" she cried, tears forming around
her bright yellow orbs as well as the kittens'.
The large tom hissed, "I'm just trying to protect our family!
You don't know what he's planning..." He stared down at his wide
paws, clenching them fiercely.
"And leave the rest of them behind?! NO!"
All of a sudden, he whipped his head around to see several tall
toms pounding towards them.
"HEY! What do you think you're doing!?"
Josef spun around to look at his mate and kits, dark green eyes
filling with fear. "HURRY, YOU NEED TO-" Two heavy toms pounced
and pinned him, and another slammed Tera to the ground.
Why didn't I listen? the mother thought painfully. "GO!" she
screeched at her children, who stared wide-eyed at the attackers
before slipping out of the den and into the wilderness.
As they escaped, they heard their own mother sob, "N-NO! PLEASE
STOP!"
"PLEASE STOP!" echoed the shout of a young tabby across the
room, waking up fellow felines.
"Hey!" "Shut up!" "Some cats are trying to sleep here!"
The gray tabby female flattened her ears against her shamefully
lowered head, her heart still pounding in her fluffy chest.
"Sorry!" she squeaked. Can't they have a little pity? she pouted
mentally, then glanced over at her bestie who was staring at her
in confusion and worry.
"Hey, are you okay?" her friend, Leslie, whispered, slowly
sitting up and stifling a yawn.
"I'm fine," she replied as she slipped on a reassuring smile.
"Just a...bad dream."
Leslie raised her imaginary eyebrow, looking doubtful. "If you
say so," she murmured, then turned and curled back up into a
fuzzy orange ball on the rug.
A long, sleepy sigh left her mouth as the warm sun peaking
between the curtains weighed on her back, causing her to turn
and squint at the dawning light. No point in going back to sleep
now. The female pushed out a couple yawns and stood up, flexing
and stretching her limbs and paws before heading out of the
bedroom.
"Hey, Skye! Wanna help me catch some breakfast? My team bailed
out on me," called a lithe, solid brown tom trotting over to her
as she entered the long halllway.
The foggy-colored she-cat turned her head at the sound of her
name and slid on a smirk. "They're sleeping in again, huh?" she
purred towards the hunter, Luca.
"Yep," he replied simply, now beside her and facing the opposite
direction. "So...you coming?"
Skye smiled and flicked her tail up into the air. "Why not?" The
pair then headed out, walking past pictures of old, deceased
humans hanging on the walls. Seeing them made her giggle inside,
remembering how she herself used to complain about how creepy
they were, along with the rest of the enormous house. Then
Leslie would pretend they scared her as well to make her feel
better.
Just as they exited the mansion, which was through a back door
that just swung open at small push because it was lacking a
doorknob, they saw two of their friends running over. They had
obviously been out in the storm last night due to their muddy
paws and pelts. Skye tilted her head and narrowed her pretty
blue eyes at the body dangling from the approaching she-cat's
mouth. Was that was she thought it was?
Both concerned and curious, the two cats darted over to the
other couple of mud-splashed cats. "What happened?"
"This poor kitten was left out in the forest! She's lucky she
even survived," the tom, Sean, explained while Mia charged into
the house with the sickened she-kit.
Skye and Luca both totally forgot about hunting their breakfast
and followed after them, eyes wide.
---
Several cats, including Skye, Leslie, and Luca, waited outside
of the "nurse's office" in hopes to see positive results on the
extremely frail kitten. Word spread around quickly in the
mansion, no matter how big it was. These cats were close and,
well, not much happened around here.
Everyone jumped to their feet when Mia pushed open the door.
"She's gonna be okay guys," she purred confidently, giving the
cats plenty of relief. "You can come in, don't crowd her
though!"
The group rushed in quietly and, much to Mia's dismay, circled
around the fancy dog bed carrying the precious life. They all
awed and purred at the peacefully sleeping kitten, except for
Skye, who seemed disturbed. She knew the coat was common, but
this kitten was a tortoiseshell with green eyes, just like the
one in her dream.

NOTES: Just to clear things up a bit, this group of cats live in
an abandoned mansion. They are like a family, pack, or clan of
some sort with two rulers.

CHAPTER TWO
Skye lay wide awake on the rug covered with cushioned blankets
and pillows. This large bedroom was where most of the adolescent
cats her age slept, by the way. She and Leslie slept near the
wall with the door that was, of course, left open so the members
could easily come in and out. This door actually had a working
doorknob on it!
Anyway, the gray and white tabby had often been lost in thought
these past two days. About the kitten. Ever since they brought
her in, she never spoke a word. She only ever used her voice to
scream when someone she didn't like came too close, who were
usually toms. And this kit, she always had a frightened look on
her face, like she was going through shock after a traumatizing
event. Skye continued to grow more and more anxious that her
nightmare was coming true, somehow.
Then a weird sound interrupted the thoughtful
she-cat's...thoughts. And by weird sound, I mean a grumble. In
her stomach. The long-furred tabby pushed out a sigh and
silently left the bedroom to find a midnight snack.
Skye felt a couple more growls from her abdomen as she headed
down the hallway and staircase, waiting to see the broken sign
barely hanging on an open door with "KITCHEN" printed on it's
dusty white surface. The more she walked, the more hungry she
was becoming. And apparently, she was the only hungry one. The
young she-cat heard clanging in the kitchen. Who else was up at
this hour? Cautiously, Skye stepped onto the cold tiled floor
and stared in shock as the moonlight from the window shone on
the figure. There was a blackish tail hanging out of one of the
cupboard doors, occasionally swishing back and forth as the
little thief searched for a snack. Skye let out a little, "Um,
hello?"
Suddenly the feline spun around, struggling to balance on the
edge of the pantry floor as she stared at Skye with bright,
shimmering green orbs. The kitten! She rushed over to keep her
from falling, but she discovered the little thing was already
speeding out a different door. When the heck did she get down?!
Skye hurried after her, her blue eyes round with worry. When she
had finally found her again, the little tortoiseshell was
huddled in a corner, whimpering loudly and scratching at the
ground as if she were trying to escape. She was just about to
run over when she realized, this kit was probably still in
shock. A deep breath was taken before she, very softly, called
as she carefully crawled over. "Hey, it's okay...I'm not going
to hurt you! I won't let anybody hurt you. You don't have to run
away. You're safe here!"
The green-eyed she-kit stopped crying and digging, but continued
to stay hunched over in the dark corner. She didn't move when
Skye came closer, or even when she stopped about a couple feet
behind her. "Come on out now. You're safe with me," Skye
murmured with a gentle smile.
Finally, the kitten turned around and just stared into the
other's eyes, locking them with her's for what seemed like
forever. Then, out of the blue, the dappled she-kit burst
forward and stuffed herself into her chest fur. Skye, though
very surprised, slowly wrapped her legs around her in a
comforting hug.
"I love you momma..."
