Neil Bainton cricket umpire retires
By: tomp Date: November 30, 2025, 12:30 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Just seen on social media that long serving ECB umpire Neil
Bainton has retired to take up a new role as ECB professional
umpires manager.
Here is the link for the job that was advertised:

Looks like it will be to oversee the appointments, progression,
coaching, assessing and pathways of umpires in both the mens
and womens game.

Ive known Neil for nearly 40 years and seen his progression
from club umpire to first class umpire. Having seen him just
recently, I can confirm that he is to oversee the professional
umpires panel relating to development and appointments.
Considering his non first class playing background, Neil has had
a superb career on field and was held in high regard by his
fellow officials and players alike.
Im sure that he will take on the next stage of his life with
the same professionalism and dedication he has shown hitherto.

Met him a couple of times a few years ago when he was umpiring
with the late Jeremy Lloyds, a very friendly guy with a great
passion for the game of cricket, i wish him every success in his
future role.
