England vs France Semi-final - Women's Rugby World Cup
By: Tim Wills Date: September 20, 2025, 12:09 pm

Are there are any rugby union referees who frequent this forum
as I watching the match this afternoon and left puzzled by a
decision?
In the second half, England were given a penalty and the ball
was kicked into touch on the half-way line which resulted in a
throw-in to England (because it was penalty). The resulting
England throw-in (@57mins10secs into the game) wasn't straight
and the referee blew up immediately saying "throw-in not
straight" on her wired up mic but for some reason gave England
possession from which they scored a try about a minute later.
Can anyone explain how England got possession as the
commentators seemed initially confused but never explained the
referee's decision?

I will watch it back as nothing was obvious at the time. She did
give a FK against France at one point for an early jump but
cannot remember when
There certainly was no feeling in the ground that something was
amiss
