This is the first time ive seen Richie since Jan 2024, at
Swindon in one of his first EFL games. I went back and read my
notes from that game and I almost could copy and paste my
thoughts from that day - unfortunately for Richie, thats not a
very good thing.
It certainly wasnt a disaster - he got the big call at the end
spot on with the penalty and that was the only major decision he
had to make. Other than 1 decision that looked onside that was
flagged, his assistants all did well too.
However, as for Richie, it was all very inconsistent. The
majority of the game was played whistle-free but then in some
parts, it became more stop-start. The yellow cards were mostly
for dissent, which he was very hot on, but then some fouls which
seemed worthy of a yellow card werent given. At times, he
pulled players for chats for seemingly nothing and then didnt
when there were more handbags. He also had no intention of
speeding up the goalkeeper at goal kicks.
As I say, there were no decisions that were close to being
awful, I just didnt really know what was coming next. In one
word, it was unconvincing from Richie - and id need to see an
improved performance before I can really believe he belongs with
regular EFL appointments.

A very similar experience to when I saw him last week (I forgot
to write a report about it). I just didnt really know what was
coming next is exactly how I would sum up his performance in
Crewe v Stockport.

Interesting to read, thanks Ryan. The fact that my two viewings
were nearly 2 years apart, but showed the same flaws, my current
assessment is that Richie is one of the weaker officials on a
large group of national list referees.

Thats a shame to read as he was really good in our game with
Tranmere a couple of years ago, was one of his very first EFL
games. There were no big calls but I remember being very
impressed
