Mike Jermey (1940-2024) |

|
Michael Ernest "Mike" Jermey died in mid December. |
|
He was the last Surrey County Challenge Trophies Secretary |
|
before the role was taken in house. |
|
He also served as Referee�s Secretary, Divisional Chairman, |
|
Director and Board Vice-Chairman. |
|
He served the County F.A. for nearly 40 years and was President |
|
of the Suburban League. |
|
He was �Linesman� for the 1981 League Cup Final, Liverpool v |
|
West Ham United. |
|
His funeral is Friday 17th January, 2p.m. at Woking Crematorium. |

I remember him as the Referees' Appointments Secretary of the |
|
Suburban League in the late 1980s. A very fair man. RIP. |

Really sorry to hear that. Mike was a Surrey colleague in the |
|
1970s and I lined to him on sevral occasions in FA Cup and |
|
Trophy games, along with Surrey and English Schools cup games. |
|
Consistently sound on the field and a nice bloke to know off it. |
|

Ah yes, Mike is on the left behind the Liverpool No 5. I always |
|
thought he was the linesman involved in the controversial moment |
|
in extra time when Kennedy opened the scoring for Liverpool |
|
despite a linesman flagging for offside against Lee who was |
|
lying in front of the WHU goalie and blocking his view, but I |
|
was later told that it was the other linesman who was flagging |
|
and I don't recognise who it is from the photo. It would be |
|
interesting to know what VAR would make of Clive's onfield |
|
decision now. Clive was never one to avoid controversy and the |
|
game ended level at 1-1 after Clive awarded WHU a late penalty |
|
for handball on the line, a decision that would presumably have |
|
seen a red card now. |
