Orsato - ENG V SWI
By: Arbitre anglais Date: July 6, 2024, 11:57 am

Generally OK first half - no real issues a non-ref would be too
bothered about. Usual excellent control, personality, etc. Slow
pace certainly suits him - seems to be struggling with fitness
more than usual? I think it caused him to miss the handball, as
he cant get wide enough in open play. Cant see how hed have
kept up with GER v ESP!
Couple of issues. ARs have got few things wrong - gone against
Orsato (wrongly) on couple of throws and AR1 wrong to flag a
ball out that was certainly still in.
Thought the YC was wrong too - ENG player knew he wasnt going
to get on the end of it and just ran into trouble, into the back
of the SWI player and actually pulled opponent down. Shouldve
waved it away (or given a FK to SWI).
Fingers crossed England can push on in second half!

I have to agree, so far I haven't been overly impressed with
Orsato. Yes his authoritative personality works well, but he and
his assistants have made some errors. I don't think this is a
particularly intense game which raises the question, would he
cope with a high intensity final?
As an additional observation, had Michael Oliver or Anthony
Taylor missed that handball, the UK press would be over them
like a rash.

The game hasn't allowed him excel, however he's not done what he
can do excellently.
A bit off the boil for me.

It was poor management to give Orsato, probably the referee with
the weakest fitness of all Euro 2024 referees, another game so
soon after his grueling R16 game that went to extra time and
penalties.
He's been just about managing but it was needless and has put
him in jeopardy when they could have appointed him to a deserved
SF/Final instead.

Considering the very high bar Orsato has set in the previous
games this is way way below par for an official of his calibre
and quality.
Off the boil certainly sums up this evenings offerings, but I
also think the number of games he has done with now two extra
times thrown in has probably contributed.
A poor appointment by Rosetti too.

He's been less than fully mobile for a few years. This last week
has pushed him far beyond any limits.
Consequently, he's been too far away and/or with poor angles to
make some easy decisions correctly.

I read somewhere that when Jon Moss refereed the Championship
Play Off final as his swansong it was felt the emotion of the
day affected his performance. Maybe tonight is Orsato's last
game?! Would the final be one game too far?

I think that's an exaggeration! Few mistakes which have been
inconsequential in the big picture, but nothing major, and
no-one is talking about the officials (hopefully I haven't just
put the kiss of death on him...)
