Get a grip Romania
By: bmb Date: August 22, 2022, 3:53 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
After the recent vile xenophobic abuse towards Istvn Kovcs by
U Craiova 1948 SA "fans" where he had to stop the game & moved
the teams to the technical area while messages went out over the
tannoy to cut it out. Game was delayed for 7mins.
Today we have.
AS FC Universitatea Cluj - ACS Sepsi OSK Sfntu Gheorghe
The Universitatea fans used the match against OSK Sepsi as an
anti-Hungarian demonstration, the hard core ultras almost
exclusively addressed Hungarians and Hungary with chants and
written messages - like the Romanian occupation of Budapest in
1919 and the date of Trianon, or "Szkelyfld does not exist".
After 25 minutes, the referee Sebastian Coltescu got tired of
the increasingly vile chanting and a warning was made via the
tannoy, he then took both teams into the dressing room for 10
mins while appeals were ongoing for it to stop. Should have
sent the riot police in & removed every single one of them...
When the game was about to restart the ultras started chanting
"Out of the country with the Hungarians!" ref just shrugged with
a WTF expression, but the decent Universitatea fans started
whistling at the ultras to shut them up. Thank you to them. The
referee himself is from Craiova, less than 3% of Hungarians
there and where you expect this behaviour - he was clearly
annoyed by it today and well done to him for the no tolerance.
I'm more surprised and saddened by this happening in Cluj
because it is one of the areas where Hungarians and Romanians
have mixed quite freely, I think it's around 15% Hungarian
there. Sepsi are from Szkely Land/Szeklerland inhabited mainly
by Szkelys, who have identified as Hungarian since the 12th
century. It was handed over to Romania along with Transylvania
as part of the Trianon Treaty in 1920, it was returned to
Hungary in 1940 along with northern Transylvania. Soviet &
Romanian occupation in 1944 saw it forcibly given to Romania and
the row goes on to this day! During the Trianon anniversary this
year the Romanian government spokesman said something along the
lines of if Hungary want Transylvania & Szeklerland back they
can have them, they're full of Bozgors. [emoji16] The FRF & in
particular the referee department have made great strides in
cutting it out & have worked closely with the MLSZ but it keeps
rearing it's ugly head. Sepsi are funded by the Hungarian
government/MLSZ/MOL and widely seen as a Hungarian club. Like
FC DAC 1904 Dunajska Streda in Slovakia their club song is
Nlkled - a song of Hungarian unity.
Sepsi won 1-0. Hajr Sepsi!
Sepsi are not whiter than white at the SuperKupa final their
fans booed the Romanian national anthem, the Romanians responded
by booing Szkely Himnusz. [emoji52]

Wasn't Sebastian Coltescu the 4th official for the PSG game
which had to be abandoned due to a comment he was alleged to
have made?
