Dont Know if anyone else has seen this, but it looks like
Maxwell-Keys Is Retiring from being a fulltime professional
referee to move into the civil service, he will however continue
to officiate part time in the premiership.

Hes still quite young I Believe, so this is a bit of a
surprise, But I geuss with the lack of opportunities for him at
international Level, hes decided to branch out. Good luck to
him for his new path.

I know he recently came out as gay. One would sincerely hope
that his sexuality this has never held him back

I dont think so as he has certainly received his fair share of
the top Premiership games. Unfortunately he arrived on the scene
at what has probably been the best time for English referees.
Watching him and comparing to the likes of Tom Foley, Karl
Dickson and even to a point Christophe Ridley, Craig did not
seem to have the gravitas. A great decision maker but never
quite sold on his total control. It became clear he was tumbling
down the list, which limited his European games and ultimately
his International experience.
Will be good to see him staying involved as he is a solid ref
and one who can do the big games, especially during
international windows.

Yep, I think the real main factor was not really appearing on
the main international scene as a referee whilst others around
him, Dickson, Ridley & now Leale have all overtaken him that
regard with Foley really used as TMO.
There must have been some reasons why WR just didn't take to him
Domestically, getting the premiership final was his biggest
achievement to date (unfortunately I don't believe he will be
appointed in that role working part-time). However, one can look
back and suggest that perhaps there were no other options with a
number of officials like Carley & Pearce away on international
duty (and Barnes with COVID I believe at the time). His team for
that match were hugely inexperienced in the big matches I
recall.
Personally, I enjoy his refereeing and just found it really
strange he wasn't given the opportunities that others seem to
have taken.
Good luck to him!!
