A Quizzle for Rugby Union Fans
By: JCFC Date: July 26, 2021, 1:57 pm

As respite from John Treleven's fiendish inquisitions, I offer a
simpler (I hope) test. Can you identify the following
International RU Referees?
NB I am a bit deaf and eye Cannes knot spel write.
01. Cain, Abel or Seth?
02. Did not survive Henry VIII.
03. Joe's home.
04. Hamlet could tell him from a handsaw, but only in a
Southerly wind.
05. Moss.
06. Straw goose.
07. Amazingly, nothing technicolour about him.
08. Antoinette.
10. Not from Stewarton, as he lies over the ocean.
11. Being Welsh, was he of the White Rock?
12. Sounds Glaswegian, but were his decisions fishy?
13. Rests in Pre Lachaise?
14. Dr John doubly achieved the pinnacle.
15. This son of Hawick did not have a long career.
16. Stop five Tessie O'Sheas.
17. My mate is crazy.
18. Did he have a fairy-tale career?
19. In the 20s was he really loathsome and depraved?
20. For an Oliver?
21. A Cumbrian with lofty ambitions?
22. Where wise owls might be found.
23. Gala man collected in Glasgow.
24. Jane's owner of Pemberley.
25. A Dublin railway station.
26. Ringer's Irish nemesis.
27. Scott, Raleigh, Mitty and Mondale.
28. The happy upshot of the feeding of the 5000?
29. The offspring of Scott's Merrilies? (A1 60115 might help.)
30. Did Umpire Sid enjoy good health?
31. Church leader who must stick to one colour.
32. For upland drainage?
33..Led to the slaughter.
34. Had a rule for each hand.
35. Extend into Tottington, Heywood, Radcliffe and Summerseats.
36. Not married to Jenny Lee.
I don't know how many, if any, will be interested, but it's kept
me amused!

19,24, 29, 32 and 34 (with e) all fine.
1. This time it was or not and.
22. Not the chap I was looking for.
35. Needs the idea of extend to be included. Try one of them
elsewhere.
25. There may have been a Connolly, but I have no means of
checking. Go two stops South from there and change. (A letter
that is, but not the sound!)

I doubt it. The Rothman's Year Book used to include a list of
all International referees and the matches they handled, but I
have no idea where such information is to be found nowadays.

Sorry, that one would take you West rather than South and the
connection to Connolly would be by tram. Third time lucky.
