Allain Rolland leaves job at World Rugby |

It has been announced that Rolland will leave his position as |
|
(effectively) head of referees at the end of this month. |
|
I believe he has done a very good job, identifying potential, |
|
getting them experience and using them at top level, including |
|
the WC. |
|
A great ref, lovely man, I wish him well on the next stage of |
|
his journey. |

It sounds like he would be an excellent replacement for a |
|
certain someone at PGMOL!!! |

On a serious note, good luck to him in whatever he chooses to do |

Maybe, just maybe, someone from outside football to succeed Mike |
|
Riley is not as ridiculous as it at first sounds. After all, |
|
Messrs Don, Hackett and Riley, as former leading football |
|
referees, have not exactly been huge successes in the job, so |
|
perhaps someone with a proven track record as a referee manager |
|
in another sport could bring something different to the role. |
|
Rolland's experience of VAR in rugby would certainly be a plus. |
|
Having said that, if it was thought to be a step too far, I |
|
would go for Howard Webb who always talks a lot of sense or |
|
perhaps Alan Wiley as a longshot within PGMOL. |
