| The Novice | |
| When somebody who is serious about studying the mystic arts | |
| searches for a mentor, the pupil first must read a great deal | |
| regarding the work of others. | |
| The Pupil | |
| However, over the course of time this same pupil is expected to | |
| be able to use this knowledge to his advantage; practice | |
| accompanies his studies. | |
| The Student | |
| However, eventually a mentor will ask his pupil to start two | |
| projects; | |
| One will be to do some work of his own, in the field of his | |
| choice (within mysticism). | |
| However, this may present itself a challenge, however it is | |
| insignificant in comparison to the other work the mentor asks as | |
| well of his student. | |
| The other work the mentor asks of his student is to start | |
| research regarding his "magnum opus" - his Great Work in | |
| mysticism. | |
| His Great Work should encompass his objective in Mysticism; his | |
| true purpose in becoming a mystic. His interests may shift, but | |
| his purpose in mysticism in his life remains the same. His Great | |
| Work should encompass his objective in Mysticism; his true | |
| purpose in becoming a mystic. His interests may shift, but his | |
| purpose in mysticism in his life remains the same. | |
| The purpose of a mage is clear early on; not apparent in his | |
| first few months in mysticism, it becomes apparent after a few | |
| years. | |
| Beginning so early your Great Work is the only way to actually | |
| accomplish it, as it requires great study and effort - every | |
| single day is important for the accomplishment of this. A pupil | |
| who does not begin his Great Work early on risks not | |
| accomplishing it. | |
| The Researcher | |
| The next stages in the life of a mage are that of a student and | |
| a researcher; he will delve head first into his studies, seeking | |
| to enlighten the darkest depths of the unknown (regarding his | |
| work). Unraveling the mysteries of his work is the great passion | |
| of a mystic. | |
| He will continuously research the subject of his choice until he | |
| is satisfied with it. As a student he will also read on other's | |
| work, for inspiration, clarification and added research into his | |
| own work. The work of other mystics helps the mage in question | |
| to delve more deeply into his own work, discover new | |
| information, uncover greater mysteries and decipher more | |
| information concealed by the mists of ignorance and the unknown. | |
| The mage never ceases to learn from others; the mage never | |
| ceases to do his own research; the mage never ceases to do his | |
| Great Work. | |
| The Mentor | |
| The latter stages of a mage are that of a mentor. A mentor will | |
| guide his pupils through what he has learned, through the works | |
| of other mystics, through pitfalls and traps that he may have | |
| encountered before him. He will guide his pupils and | |
| "father"/"mother" them into the great family of mystics. | |
| The Guru / Hermit | |
| After a mage has performed his Great Work, he will become a guru | |
| or a hermit. A guru will teach others, but prefer to spend his | |
| thought and energy focused inwards. A hermit will isolate from | |
| others to focus on his work and research, as he does not wish to | |
| be distracted from his work. Both choices are perfectly | |
| acceptable, and it depends on how difficult his Great Work is, | |
| and also how far he has progressed in his own Great Work. | |
| The Great Mystic | |
| The last stage of a mage is to become a great mystic; he | |
| isolates himself, performs miracles... his work has brought him | |
| power, knowledge, wisdom and possibly even glory. However, of | |
| these he spends his time growing in Knowledge and Wisdom. | |
| The Transcendent Mystic | |
| After this he reaches Transcendence; he will either Transcend in | |
| life, reaching beyond the physical without ever dieing... or he | |
| will die and become a great spirit beyond the physical. | |
| Beyond Transcendence... | |
| Beyond Transcendece, no human can truly know what will happen to | |
| the mage. Remember, the mage will always be in a constant state | |
| of growth. Where does the mage go beyond Transcendence? One can | |
| only guess... | |
