|
Focused on what�s around me |
|
I lose the bigger picture |
|
The self that didn�t micromanage |
|
never knew her, I shouldn�t miss her |
|
Like a child watching raindrops |
|
race down the family car window |
|
she picks her favorite and watches it |
|
until focus drowns out the radio |
|
She doesn�t care where she�s going |
|
or that soon, she�ll drive on her own |
|
She�ll forget these days when old enough |
|
to have more important skills to hone |
|
In the mean time, all that matters |
|
is that her favorite crawls the fastest |
|
but when asked if it�s reached the finish line |
|
she�ll lie and claim the one that passed it |
|
This child has to be right |
|
or else she�ll fall apart |
|
She views her wide eyes for success |
|
as a lonely art |
|
The passengers think it�s silly |
|
and tell her to watch the view |
|
She�ll only listen if they threaten to |
|
stop rooting for her too |
|
I�m still like that silly child |
|
I haven�t grown up yet |
|
How long until I look through the window? |
|
Would anyone care to bet? |
|
Maybe I�m like the raindrop too |
|
that was left behind |
|
Took too long to follow expectations |
|
soon no one will call me �mine� |
|
It�s true that I�ve been left behind |
|
by my impatient self |
|
This pressure to perform |
|
gathers puddles of attempts at health |
|
I wish I could look far ahead |
|
and not be so afraid |
|
What I don�t know how to navigate scares me |
|
I don�t have to cry, I just watch the game |
|
