I'm surprised they released it today.
I wonder what would happen if someone tried to use today - it
doesn't come in to force until Sunday :-?

So do I NEED to do something with that form to claim my MOT
exemption? I thought it would just happen. THAT form is what I
will need to self declare MOT exemption when it is next due to
be taxed, but that is not until November in my case.
I checked on the check your MOT site and today is says "MOT- no
results returned"
So can I take it for a drive today or not? or do I need to do
something now to "claim" it's MOT exempt status?

It seems that, despite what the department has said up to now,
that you can declare MOT exemption on-line and you don't need to
go to a PO with a V112 form!
If you go to tax it on-line, even if it's already taxed, and you
don't have an MOT, you will be given the option to declare it
exempt.
If you have a current MOT, you don't get the option - probably
have to wait until the MOT expires :-?
Cheers,
Robin.

Thanks I have just done that.
Because I don't have a V11 tax reminder, I had to enter the 12
digit reference from the V5. It then told me my vehicle was
already taxed but gave me the option to continue, where I was
able to self declare MOT exemption. I then "paid" 0 for a
fresh years tax starting 1st May
I now need to see how long before it reflects that MOT exempt
status at "check my MOT"

Well it is now 5 days since I "re taxed" and self declared MOT
exempt.
the government "check my MOT" updated after about 3 days to show
the new tax expiry date, but it is still showing no information
for the MOT status.
Has anyone else done this and sucessfully got it to show MOT
exempt or something similar?

So what's the deal with MOT exemption?
Do you have to declare MOT exemption or can you keep sending
them in for a test?
I've got a 1966 Series 2a that's long out of test. When I
(eventually) get it to stage where I'd be ready for an MOT, can
I still take it to be tested? I'd like to know I've done enough
to make the car safe so an MOT would be good evidence of road
worthiness. I guess I could ask a garage to just give it a once
over instead?
Kev.

You can still have them MOT but if it fails you need to get it
sorted and then take it for a retest. I will still have mine
done just for peace of mind.
