Fitting an air vent in a garage
By: Cornish Rattler Date: September 9, 2017, 9:54 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys
Well after I fitted a Potbelly stove in my garage earlier this
year I have decided on fitting a Hit and Miss ( adjustable ) air
vent on the opposite wall which is where my bench is and even
though the garage gets very warm for some reason the heat seam's
to struggle to get to the other side of the garage where my
bench is so I am trying to see if this idea would work so today
I dug my SDS drill out to drill the ( concrete sectional ) wall
of the garage and fitted the vent in place so on Monday when I
am off again I will get the stove going again and see if it has
worked, if not I will close the vent so I don't have a permanent
draft when I am working on the bench.
What do you think :smile1

Had the stove on today to try the vent out and it works a treat
as the area where the bench is is now nice and warm and not too
warm to work just right and I can adjust the vent at the bench
if I need to, so I will just have to wait till winter kicks in
to find out properly but it seams to be working up to now

By vent you mean nothing more than a hole in your wall around
your bench, at the opp. end to your stove. Not tubular
vent/ducting, going from over your stove to the opp. end?
Correct?
I would have argued not, I'm surprised it worked. Seems I would
have lost the argument.

Correct and yes it worked not like its pulling loads of heat
towards the bench area but just a nice amount of heat rather
than being cold if stood over the bench for long periods of
time, but the real test will be when winter kicks in good and
proper as we are supposedly expecting a bad winter this year so
we will see :smile1

getting fed up of false promises of a bad winter, do you think
they'll get it right eventually?

It would be nice if we have a good winter but having the stove
in the garage now just allows me to work on the 2a all year
round and it I have a shit job to do on it in the winter it
isn't a problem
