Scilly Leafer?

Spotted at Porthloo, St. Mary's Scilly Islands. The chassis
looked good, but the body was looking a bit corroded and could
do with painting - patina is fine, but it is difficult to
preserve decay! That said, vehicle maintenance in the islands
seems to mean something different from what we are accustomed
to. You can also leave vehicles unlocked with the keys in as
there are only about 4 miles of roads and no easy way to get
them off the islands.
I guessed it was about 1950 from its features, and then cheated
by looking up the registration to confirm (the original from
Staffordshire Aug 1950).

Excellent photo thanks. In my opinion, painting it would be an
act of vandalism......
Looks just fab as it is 8) 8)

It looks quite good, compaired to some I've seen on the islands.
it looks like it's got new seats and new headlamp trims and a
new exhaust, even the front dumbirons look nicely painted black

It had obviously had a lot of work done on the chassis, but the
body and bulkhead were corroding badly. It is all very well 'not
painting it' but it is difficult to 'preserve decay' and
eventually it will rot away. Aluminium panels are not immortal
if unprotected, especially by the sea - I would clean off all
the corrosion and paint it. I have had mine nearly 40 years, and
for most of that time it has lived outside. There is no way it
would have survived all that time 'as acquired', and it has had
three paint jobs in that time. That said, I wouldn't do one of
those immaculate restorations that go for 40 - 70k where you
wouldn't dare take it out of the garage!
Anyway, I spotted it on E-bay a couple of weeks ago - it was
over 10k at that point.
