Inaccurate Speedo
By: micsimps Date: March 10, 2016, 2:30 pm

Now here's a thing; my speedo shows roughly half the speed I'm
actually doing... Not that I'm doing a lot of course, but a pain
when in a 30 limit with speed cameras.
Presume it's just a buggered speedo, or can there be another
reason?

Have you fitted bigger wheels? Or different diffs?

Could be worn where the speedo cable fits in to the rear of the
transfer box, a new cable normally sorts it or if not its the
drive gear that has worn which can be quite common.

Would say the speedo needs overhauling. The magnetic cup that
spins around needs to be re-magnetised.

I'll try a new cable and see if that sorts it.
Is the drive gear in the speedo unit or the transfer box?
Would a speedo overhaul be a relatively easy job?

Its in the rear of the transfer box dude, where the cable fits
in. Speedo is quite technical and can cost quite a bit t have
refurbed.

Speedo drive housing tight, pre load correct? I'm thinking the
drive works on friction? Not enough friction= not enough turny
action?
