Question for Albert Ross,5 bearing crank oil seal.

Mr Ross you may or may not remember speaking to me at leafers
about the 5 bearing rear crank oil seal and advising me to
silicon seal the when fitting the seal. Now I have only done a 3
bearing in the past and could not visualise what you meant at
the time , anyway now that I have had a chance to have a look at
my parts manual I can now see the rear oil seal goes in the fly
wheel housing and that there is an o ring seal as well . Do I
silicon "in" both seals or just the main oil seal?

Can of worms.
Two pictures... they might help.

Right. Remove the housing from the block, and remove the seals
from the housing. Clean and use a spirit degreaser to remove all
traces of oil from the seal fitting areas. Fit the main lipped
seal dry to the housing, but lightly smear the seal lip with LM
grease. As for the O ring on the inner face, the groove needs to
be clean, oil free and dry. A light smear of silicon in the
groove, and pop the seal into the groove. As you squish it into
the groove, the silicon will squidge out. You will see the
mating faces of the two parts (the housing and the block) Make
certain you have smeared a thin to medium coating of silicon on
the edges of the clean areas that touch between the two. (You
can see the slightly rusty outline on the housing-clean this
before silicon and fitting) The reason for this can be seen in
the pics above, as you can see, oil is resting on the block, and
this is one place it leaks out. Make sure the crank rear web
seal running face is clean, rust, and groove free. A deep groove
means that the seal won't seal, if you get me. Hope all of this
helps.
