Ghost Signs |

|
The term 'ghost signs' seems to refer to fading painted |
|
adverising which adorned old building years ago, before the |
|
advent of the modern advertising hoardings that appear all over |
|
the place. They can still be seen around, mostly with very |
|
fading paintwork - hence the 'ghost sign' terminology. I have |
|
been meaning to post some of the ones below for ages, and |
|
finally got around to photographing some more too. As can be |
|
seen, some have clearly been restored, but others are becoming |
|
ghosts. |

Fantastic, love the old advertisements, it's a shame most have |
|
disappeared or are close to disappearance due to owner's neglect |
|
or intentional destruction of the lovely old signwriting :( |
|
There used to be an old ad for a 1930's garage on a bakery in |
|
Kutna Hora, I think this has long been covered with a new |
|
facade. |

Well I had a feeling it was the Odeon in Doncaster, but the |
|
links on the page I found it on suggested it was Heysham.... Who |
|
knows, it's still fucking amazing piece of survival.. the "new" |
|
Cortina was 1971..... so 45 years and in that condition, it's |
|
better than the bloody cars it advertised! |
