| Building a Scamp | |

| --------------------------------------------------------- | |
| I have posted this on the dog walking and caravanning forum, so | |
| some of you may have seen it before, but if not...... | |
| Some years ago I was at the 1000 Engine Rally and one of the | |
| exhibitors called the Engineers Emporium were selling a kit of a | |
| Lister Autotruck (Lister made both rail and road versions of | |
| this small locomotive. | |
| http://www.theengineersemporium.com/catalogue-pages/locokits.html<br | |
| />- the kits were quite pricey - around 6-8 K from memory. I had | |
| a | |
| Lister D engine kicking around and this seemed an ideal project, | |
| but as I say, too pricey to warrant taking any further. | |
| Later on and probably through Facebook, I came across a similar | |
| kit built loco called a Stumpy, which again used the Lister D | |
| engine as its power source. This was more affordable, but | |
| probably above my skill level as it involved welding and other | |
| engineering skills. | |
| https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgeclLHarf4 | |
| Anyway, through speaking with Colin Edmondson (a really clever | |
| chap who I believe was involved with the design of the Ford | |
| Transit) I heard about the Scamp locomotive. This is an even | |
| smaller version of the Lister Autotruck, but obviously cheaper | |
| and much easier to build. You can purchase them ready assembled | |
| - but where is the fun in that! | |
| The kit consists of all laser cut steel parts, and then comes | |
| with a shopping list of parts you need to buy in order to | |
| complete it. To make it cheaper for me, I decided to flog loads | |
| of spare parts I had accumulated over the years and used the | |
| money to fund the project. | |
| The beauty of the Scamp is its simplicity to build, its | |
| relatively cheap cost, and the ease of transporting as it breaks | |
| down into small parts and easily fits into the back of a car. | |

| Unfortunately I don't have any youtube videos of my Scamp | |
| running - and I can't upload photos to this forum, so I have | |
| added some other Scamps to give you the general idea of what | |
| they can do, and what they are like. I use mine on public | |
| running duties at Pugneys Light Railway near Wakefield and on | |
| open days at my club track near Brighouse. | |
