	Another defeat, Kyushu out played us, which given their home
	advantage and strong starting line up versus our slightly
	changed one shouldn�t come as a massive surprise.
	The only highlight was the commentary team calling Eddie Staggs
	dribble kinky!
	Never mind the Xmas break, bring on the end of the season!

	Overview
	It was a cliffhanger, it was tight, it was tense and ultimately
	it was heartbreak for the hellhounds as this two legged affair
	came down to dreaded penalties and lady luck did not smile on
	them with Ole Guncalves having his shot saved by David James.
	Pompey progress through to the quarter final stage and Helsinki
	go back to Finland to lick their wounds.
	How they lined up
	Hellsinki looked to use their wingers and get Kiss on the end of
	their crosses. Just three defenders were complimented with two
	defensive midfielders. Pompey went with their usual 4 1 3 2
	formation with a European style of play.
	Match action
	Both teams had early changes to get their team in front on the
	night. First Hikkara saved Godi Sanchez's shot on 3 mins before
	Kiss dribbled past the defence, hitting the post with his effort
	and then hitting the rebound into orbit on 8 mins. Pompey
	thought they had taken a deserved lead on 25 mins but
	McGloughlin's strike was disallowed for a foul in the build up.
	Pompey were not to be denied too much longer and took the lead
	in first half stoppage time, Glen Johnson of all people hitting
	a scorcher of a shot which Hikkara could do nothing about. The
	match was squared up at 2 - 2 on aggregate. Game on!
	Second half - so little to say here. James made a few useful
	saved but it was increasingly turning into a cagey affair with
	neither club wanting to make a mistake. A string of subs added
	some fresh legs but even those players couldn't find a telling
	contribution. On to extra time.
	Extra time was a similar story, although Patrick Berger did
	almost win it with a lob on 107 minutes which came off the
	outside of the post before Crouch chipped the keeper with the
	last kick and it went just wide.
	Penalties - it was always going to be an uphill challenge
	against James and so it proved. Pompey despatched all five of
	their penalties and James saved just the one required to put
	Pompey through!
	Manager's thoughts
	"This is a tough pill to swallow. We gave our all over the two
	legs. We weren't quite on it tonight and credit to Pompey they
	deserved their victory tonight. It was a really close tie and
	one we could've easily won on another day. We'll come back
	stronger next year and hope to go at least one step further."
	Fitness concerns
	Already working with a threadbare squad the management had not
	considered the implications of extra time which leaves six of
	the first team squad in need of a rest. Weekend selection
	headaches loom large on the horizon!

	we got away with 1 here as we was well crap we just scraped
	through to the next round but we have to play better and
	communicate better after moran,s og but king eric to the rescue
	happy to progress but not happy with the performance

	In the Xbox League Cup last 16 2nd leg, Golden Eagles FC edge
	out Artic Storm 2-1 in a very close game. The victory sees them
	move into the quarter finals 6-1 on aggregate, after a thumping
	4-0 win in the first leg.
	Missing 3 first team players didn't seem to faze Eagles,
	although they were set up more defensively with a 4-1-3-1-1.
	Which would account why storm had a couple more chances. During
	the first half, the game was fairly even-stevens, with Domenic
	Torcaso going the closest for Eagles, but his shot hit the bar.
	Then Jo-Jo Knight almost opened the scoring for home side just
	after half-time as he bared-down 1 on 1 with Kamil Uzbaezanov,
	but the Eagles shot-stopper stood his ground to deny Knight.
	Both sides then did a triple substitution on the hour mark;
	young Polish lad Martin Proch�zka replaced Mauro Sotomayor, last
	Saturday's hero Angelo Nazari came on for Alessio Kovacic and
	Swede Anders Limt took over from Milos Potkozarač. These
	changes seemed to liven the game up a bit, as Limt almost scored
	just after coming on, but his shot hit the post!
	Eagles finally took the lead 12 minutes later, Angelo Nazari was
	bought down by Rory Abbot and ref awarded a penalty (although
	replays showed it to be a harsh decision). Top scorer Jans
	Goisthalt stepped-up and converted the penalty to take his tally
	to 16.
	With Storm pushing more players forward, Domenic Torcaso got on
	the score sheet in the 89th minute, after a fine pass from
	Rodrigo Des�bato. A couple minutes later, Rory Abbott skipped
	past Martin Proch�zka and unleashed a wicked, swerving shot that
	beat Kamil Uzbaezanov, giving Storm a hard-fought consolation
	goal.
	Despite Rory Abbott putting in a great performance for the home
	side, it was Eagles� Rodrigo Des�bato who received the Man of
	the Match award with 4 key tackles, 3 key passes and an assist.
	�It was a great result, a much better team performance compared
	to last Saturday. Rodrigo put in a commanding performance today
	in midfield and Angelo caused all sorts of problems after coming
	off the bench.�
	Eagles were the only division 2 side to advance through to the
	quarter finals and it is expected that the draw will be
	announced in the new year. They could face such sides as
	Darlington All Stars, Puskas Academia or Rael Nerrad for
	example.
